Stash Of Vintage Race Cars For Sale

From the looks of things, the seller was formerly a racer in the Sports Car Club of America. And maybe a collector of British sports cars in general. Four specific automobiles are up for sale, including two MGBs, a Bug Eye Sprite, and a Triumph Spitfire. They’re all from the 1960s and haven’t seen the racetrack in some time, so they’re in various states of repair/disrepair. While the seller mentioned $2,500, that may be for the Triumph and not the others, so contact would be needed. From Shakopee, Minnesota, this group is available here on craigslist for any interested parties.

Here’s what we know about each of the cars. Supposedly they’re all accident and rust-free. The seller mentions four other cars besides these will be available, but just not yet.

1967 MGB – this is the white car that still sports SCCA decals. It comes with logbooks from its racing adventures and a race-ready engine. It was last on the track in the 1990s and is fitted with a roll bar and a modified suspension (pics provided).

1967 MGB – the same vintage as the other one but this it’s red in color. It was modified for ice racing and comes with a race engine and roll bars. Its record on the track is documented and the seller says it could be easily converted to run in the SCCA vintage category (pics also provided).

1963 Triumph Spitfire – we’re told this one was built as a racecar and has never been registered for street use. Green in color, it comes with its logbooks and at least one spare engine (single photo provided).

1960 Bug Eye Sprite – this car last raced in the 1980s in Oklahoma before finding its way to Minnesota. Its documentation was lost in transit, but we’re told its history can be reconstructed. It has a two-tone paint job and a 948-cc engine that runs and a 1,275-cc race-ready motor is available for a package deal or separately (no photo provided).

    People take a dozen photos of a meal they want to share with friends, but cannot be bothered to take pictures of something want to get thousands of dollars for.

    Seriously, take pics. They more you take, the more valuable the cars become for interested buyers.

    Ad says the ‘63 always a race car is white. The green car is a TR4/TR250 body and tail light in my view.

      I agree, I saw 2 MGB’s and what I thought was a TR4 or maybe a TR6. The listing says he has 4 other cars to sell, including a TR4 and TR6, I’m guess he got the wrong pic in the ad.

      I crew for a vintage racer and we’ve resurrected some old race cars that looked a lot worse than these. The fact that these still have their log books is a plus. Though we usually race 60’s Corvettes and Camaro’s, a few 510’s, MG’s and Triumph’s have been through the shop for restoration and returned to the track. I forwarded the listing to him, knowing he’s always on the hunt for old race cars.

    Can you even buy a phone that doesn’t include a free digital camera? And as far as I know, CL doesn’t charge to attach photos. I’ll never understand people…

      Not that I know of. That was a big problem when no cameras were allowed at work.

    I seem to remember that a full cage was required in the SCCA in the mid-80s. So I am doubting the 90s claim.

      The MGB is the only one I see with a full cage. Our first Sprite SCCA car, bought in the late ’80s and built in ’66 had a full cage with tubes to the front suspension that I believe were installed in the mid ’80s.
