The 1970 model year was the seventh for the mid-size Chevrolet Chevelle. And it remained as popular as ever, with more than 387,000 copies produced. Somewhat rare today is the Malibu convertible, which saw 5,400 assemblies with a V8 engine (excluding the Super Sport). The seller has what seems to be a nice ’70 drop-top that may have been under wraps in a storage facility for quite some time. Located in Portland, Oregon, this possible driver comes with a spare interior and is available here on craigslist for the best “reasonable” offer. Thanks for another BowTie tip, “Curvette.”

History for this 1970 Chevelle is limited. It’s been under a tarp in a large shed for some time (given the amount of dust) and is keeping company with another Chevy, a Camaro. The odometer reads 74,000 miles, but no mention is made as to whether the Malibu runs. The dark blue paint is an older repaint and looks good, contrasted by a white top and bucket seat interior. Though it resides in Oregon now, the Chevy originated in Texas.

Though no such photos are provided, we’re told the Chevy has a 350 cubic inch V8 under the hood (2-barrel?), and it’s flanked by a floor-shifted automatic transmission, probably a TH-350. This set-up is matching numbers, and the car has an SS-style raised hood, which would have been more for show than go.

The interior is said to be good for the age, but a complete, new interior set was purchased for the car and is all packaged up, waiting for transfer. There is no rust on this machine, so if you can get it going, you may have a good driver-quality convertible. But if you want to turn it into an SS clone, the seller has a date-coded LS big-block V8 (496 or 454?) that can be had for an additional charge. The seller does not hint at what he’s looking to get out of the vehicle and/or spare engine, so you’ll have to gamble on how much you’re willing to pay.

No more clones! Too nice a car as is. Would be really nice if gone through and eventually running well.
With the addition of the hood and stripes, it already is a clone…just a poor one.
I agree, beautiful color combination and please don’t make it a clone.
I agree leave it the way it is. Just needs more pictures. What engine configuration 350 4barrel or 2 barrel, A/C ? Stored for how long? Still looks like a very nice non SS Chevelle hear and a convert with a floor shifter transmission.. Notice a lot of other cars with covers on them? This one just needs to be cleaned up and gone thru.
Need to see it in person. CL ad shows two different (blue) cars, one of which appears to be a Mustang.
It’s a 1970 through 1973 Camaro.

I searched for the camaro which is more interesting to me personally, but did not find a listing for it. That said, there are a LOT of interesting cars listed on CL in that area. It’s worth a look. Surprising, since in the south hardly anyone uses CL anymore.
LS 496 or 454. Who writes this stuff? AI?
I am in total agreement with the above: Don’t clone it! It’s nice enough as is. Clean it up, install the new interior if so desired, then drive & enjoy it. Not every classic needs to be a fire-breather. If these were my jam, I would be sorely tempted. GLWTS.
There aren’t many cars as beautiful as a 70 Chevelle ,in Fathom Blue and white .Keep it Malibu or clone SS ,they were made on the same assembly line so who cares .For me ,something as simple as the SS stripes add a ton to the appeal .
seller knows what he wants so just put out there. he is playing games with the offer thing. i would lose the stripes. not enough pics either.
I got an idea. How about the person that BUYS it decides what to do with it. If someone prefers the look of an SS to a Malibu, then clone it. As long as you don’t try and alter the VIN or sell it as something it’s not, it’s up to the buyer! So many people on here telling others what they need to do with THEIR car?
Heaven forbid the new owner might put wheels larger than 15″ on the car too??
In 1970 the VIN will not help determine if it’s an SS, other than telling you if the Chevelle came with a V8 or 6 cylinder.

Probably a scam. It’s Craigslist.
Look at the roof, it’s a convertible, you can see the bows
Sweet ride just as it is if it cleans up decent. Either 2 or 4 barrel 350s were strong runners in 1970. This one should bring decent money cleaned up and running and the convertibleakes it more desirable. Doesn’t need cloning to be a cool car.
