The Chevy Caprice was introduced in mid-1965 as a luxury version of the Impala to compete against Ford’s new LTD. It was highly successful and remained a Chevy staple for many years. It became a series of its own in 1966 and essentially was an Impala on cosmetic steroids. The seller has a potentially restorable ’67 Caprice Sport Sedan that could be turned into a clone of the black car on the TV show Supernatural. Located in Ravenna, Ohio, this running project is available here on eBay, where the current bid is $5,000.

Ford’s big claim with the early LTDs was that the car was as quiet as a Rolls-Royce, a premise that I don’t know was ever proven beyond the TV commercials. I don’t recall Chevrolet making such a statement about the Caprice, which wore a higher level of trim than the Impala and had a V8 engine as standard equipment. The seller’s car is the Sport Sedan, which was Chevy-speak for a 4-door hardtop. It may or may not be rare in that tens of thousands of these cars in that body style were produced back in the day.

The seller suggests you could turn this Caprice into a clone of a similar car from the long-running TV show Supernational. The series ran for 15 seasons beginning in 2005, and one of the “stars” was a black ’67 Caprice Sport Sedan piloted by the Winchester brothers, who nicknamed it “Baby”. The seller says this Baby wannabe runs but needs restoration, and we’re guessing a 283- or 327-cubic-inch V8 resides under the hood.

The undercarriage of this Chevy is crusty, and it once wore a vinyl roof covering, which may have led to some rust where the chrome trim once was. The car has likely been repainted, and you can see it is beginning to crack in a few places. A restoration back to stock condition may not suit most collectors, so do any Supernatural fans out there want to take on a challenge?

Well, that was fun while it lasted! Good luck everybody!
This is the 5th time the seller has listed on eBay, the 4 previous time it had a set price of $16,000.
