Survivor-Quality Flat Top: 1960 Pontiac Bonneville

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Bonneville was born in 1957 as a special model of Pontiac’s full-size (and only) automobiles and carried forward into 1958. In 1959, the nameplate stood for the biggest and most opulent of Pontiac’s products. With a styling update in 1960, the 4-door hardtop (aka Sport Sedan) became known as the “flat top”, a multi-door alternative to the Sport Coupe or “bubbletop”. This 1960 Bonneville looks solid at 61,000 miles, and most of it could be original (except maybe the paint). Located in a dealer’s warehouse in Carmel, Indiana, this bodacious cruiser is available here on eBay for $32,000 OBO.

Four body styles of the Bonneville were offered in 1959-60: 2 and 4-door hardtops, a convertible, and a Safari wagon. At sales of 39,000 units, the “flat top” was the most popular of the body styles. My uncle owned a ’60 Bonneville Sport Sedan that looked like the seller’s car, except that it was blue inside and out. This generation introduced the famous “Wide Track” promotion, where Pontiac’s full-size cars added a couple of inches between the wheels fore and aft that resulted in better handling characteristics.

We’re told the current owner has possessed this Bonney for about two years and has only taken it out for occasional jaunts. It’s said to run as good as it looks, so perhaps this is a turnkey automobile in need of nothing. A 389 cubic inch V8 was the only engine choice, and most buyers went for the Super Hydra-Matic transmission. This Poncho is fully loaded, including factory air conditioning (is the hardware under the hood?) and power windows.

The body and paint seem to be in tip-top shape. As the seller refers to paint as the “original color,” we assume that means it has been resprayed. The two-tone green interior is also said to be original, and it looks like it’s hardly been used. If there’s a nicer 1960 Bonneville out there to be found, we suspect it will take a lot of looking. Thanks for the cool tip, T.J.!

I’m sure it will get a lot of love, but would be surprising if it found a buyer at that price.

Gorgeous, love the 4 dr http body style. This seems expensive, but where are you going to find another one? I’d leave the skirts, they are very period correct.

As I’ve gotten older, I really have come to appreciate 4 door hardtops. Especially ones like this flat top sports sedan. Yeah I’m not seeing any AC hardware under the hood either, but you see the AC vents inside. Price maybe a little optimistic but she’s sure a beauty.

I don’t recall ever seeing power windows only in the front, with crank windows in the back. If that was a factory option, it must be rare. Nice car but priced quite optimistically IMO.

That must be a Canadian thing. I had one just like it except interior was blue back in the day and all 4 doors were electric lift.
These were great cars except for the transmission.
The price on this one is too high IMHO especially when we don’t see the AC under the hood.

Check out how blue that tinted glass is. Perfect for an a/c car. The green tri-tone looks good with the white exterior. Love that Vista roofline.

I dove a car just like this with the 389 motor, so hard till the motor had a knocking noise. I put oil additive and it finally stop while I was in High School. It’s a beautiful car.

It’s a good looking Pontiac, but for that price, it should have the correct width whitewalls.

I have a white 59 in the fleet. I prefer my red/burgundy interior by far.
4800 pounds of fun. Still burns the tires! I agree on losing the skirts.
32 may be fair if it is a genuinely clean car and not fluffed.
An ugly purple 59 with wire wheels sold for 38 on BAT so……………………..
