The history report of a vehicle is a curious thing. For vehicles below a certain age, it’s still a meaningful barometer of value, especially when a serious accident is involved. Modern supercars are constructed of such ridiculous materials that heavy damage is almost always impossible to return to factory standards. But when a car reaches a certain age, blemishes in its history file seem to matter far less. The Porsche 930, otherwise known as a 911 Turbo, is one of those cars, and this former theft recovery listed here on eBay is still commanding $89,000 despite being a bit of a running project.

And, to be completely fair, it seems like a potential deal given a solid 930 will set you back $130,000 or so these days. I was actually expecting to see far more significant damage upon opening this listing and seeing the asking price. The bodywork looks decent and all of the factory Turbo kit items are there like the whale tail spoiler and the widened bodywork. The later twist-style wheels were a typical upgrade back in the day, but it would look far better on the correct wheels, likely a set of color-matched Fuchs. I’m surprised to not see a rear window wiper; it seems most 930s came with them. I can see the mounting location on the spoiler, however.

The interior shows evidence of modifications that were all the rage years ago and somewhat scoffed upon now. The aftermarket steering wheel, the drilled aluminum pedals, and aftermarket speakers were the norm in the 90s for a 911, even a Turbo. If this car came with sport seats from the factory, I can almost guarantee they were pilfered in the earlier theft, but unlike the rear wiper, not every Turbo came with them. Still, if you can find a set, it would add significant value to this 930 once its refurbishment is complete.

The seller is somewhat vague about the running condition, other than noting it runs and drives but leaks oil and has a rough idle. That could be as simple as bad ignition components or it could be misfiring wildly and requiring deeper investigation. The turbocharged 3.3-liter flat-six produces 282 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque, and like all older 911 engines, it will leak; however, there’s a fine line between excessive and normal. This looks like a potentially solid opportunity to get into 930 ownership without having to shell out the typical amount of cash for one, provided the engine issues aren’t serious.
