Dodge redesigned its compact cars in 1963 and changed the name from Lancer to Dart (the former was a slow seller). That first generation in a smaller package ran through 1966 with minor styling changes from year to year. This 1966 edition is a GT convertible that looks to be in excellent cosmetic condition. Packing a V8 engine, this black-on-red-on-black Dart is available here on Facebook Marketplace through a dealer in Fairfield Township, Ohio, for $21,900. Way to go, “Pnuts,” for the shiny tip!
The GT was Dart’s sporty version of the revised compact. It came with bucket seats and a console but had a Slant-Six as standard equipment. Buyers could opt for a V8 engine and – in 1966 – that should have been a 273 cubic inch motor. As the seller indicates this car has a 318, we have to assume the original engine was changed out at some point. The overall car appears to have been restored, though no mention is made of any major refreshments. But the selling dealer may simply not know.
As far as sale listings go, the seller goes a little overboard on talking up the virtues of this Dodge. The presentation of the car is said to be better than a driver, not quite show quality either. In other words, it’s very, very nice. Power steering and brakes add to the comfort of this convertible whose top is power-activated. Its running condition is good, and the undercarriage is rust-free.
One of the items that has survived is the Dart’s original Certi-Card, which was used when you took the car in for dealer service. It has seat belts front and rear, which may have still been optional in 1966. The tires were replaced two years ago, so that’s an expense you won’t have to worry about when you get it home. If you’re looking for a convertible, this Dodge should be a good choice if you agree with the price.
