The 1968-72 Chevy Novas are famous for being Super Sport clone candidates. But the seller’s car doesn’t have to worry about that because it has too many doors – a 4-door sedan. This family transport is from 1971, and it looks to be in good shape overall except for the faded green paint. We gather it’s a two-owner automobile and may have lived in the town where it was first sold all its life. Located in Fort Collins, Colorado, this Chevy II is available here on craigslist for $7,500 OBO. A thumbs up to Rocco B. for the tip!

Chevrolet’s Chevy II (later Nova) was popular throughout its entire run from 1962 to 1979. The redesign of 1968 proved to be the most successful of the lot, though 1971 would be a soft sales year (off 37% from 1970). We suspect that was due to a GM labor strike in the Fall of 1970. Still, 195,000 Novas were built, and more than a quarter of them were 4-door sedans like this one (the coupe was the one everyone else wanted).

This Chevy has a fairly common combination of accessories, starting with a 307 cubic inch V8 rather than an inline-6. Add to that an automatic transmission (Powerglide or Turbo-Hydramatic?), power steering and brakes, and factory air conditioning. The odometer reads 66,000 miles could be original. We’re told it runs and drives fine and there is no mention of any work that the Chevy might need.

Paperwork has survived that says the car was bought new in Fort Collins, where it is being sold from today. Besides trying to get a shine to return to the paint, maybe this Nova is ready to go. This vehicle is never going to command the same kind of money as an SS (real or tribute), but sometimes that doesn’t matter.

My mom had a 74 Nova sedan with a 350. She bought it at Stagers Chevrolet in 1979 with only 30,000 miles. It was owned by a Catholic priest and it was mint. I remember driving it as a teenager and it didn’t go well in winter. It had posi but got stuck everywhere. This example is beautiful! Id like to have it. As I age, I really don’t mind 4 doors. If it’s an old car it’s desirable to me
This makes sense for someone that wants a classic car they can use as a driver or go to coffee and cars. It’s not flashy but gets you a nice car at a reasonable price. If it were a project, there would be better options, but if it’s condition matches the pictures and description it will be a decent driver.

Great car with great amenities. If it has a TH350 transmission, what a great opportunity to make it an SS FOUR DOOR tribute with maybe a 4bbl intake and other SS amenities. What a cool car that would be. (My Texas grandmother had a 1973 Pontiac Ventura Custom with a 350-2V that would absolutely scream!) A 4 door tribute would be awesome!!!
Flashbacks to my childhood. My family had one like this, this exact color, too. Straight-6 and a Powerglide. Power nothin’ (I don’t know how my dad ever parallel parked that car on the street in Manhattan without power steering), no air, AM radio.
Great Nova! 4 doors and that great shape makes that a unicorn! Cool patina to the paint!
Vintage car with all the toys. AC, power brakes and steering. Nice condition. More than fair price. Love it.
Agreed on all counts. Shift indicator on the dash looks to be Powerglide. Drat. Although back in the day my brother had a ’69 two-door with the same powertrain and it would surprise a lot of bigger stuff off the line. Except MOPAR 340’s . . .
Looks great for its age. Appears to have been taken care of. Colorado life warrants an undercarriage shot. Fair price. Love the 307, had one in a 68 (?) Chevelle wagon w/woodgrain. EZ to work on.
My wife had the exact same car when I met her. She hated the faded out green. I bought her several Nova two doors and a nice 69 Camaro over the years until we had more kids, then she got Chevy vans.
What a fine example of a common car we no longer see. This one is a 307/Powerglide which would carry over until 1973. Air conditioning was rather uncommon in Michigan. Was 1970 the last year for the 307 call out on the fenders? Someone must have preferred the rectangular mirror and may have replaced a cracked steering wheel with a Cushion Grip from a ’73 or ’74.
Naaah…that’s a 71 steering wheel. This’d be a great grocery getter and it would be fun to juice it it up a little, it wouldn’t take much. Price is right too and it is well equipped. I doubt it’ll be here long.
A cheap entry into the classic car hobby with a V8. 4 doors put up a block for many but not for others…….
I hate to say it, but this screams for extreme “sleeper” treatment. Keep the exterior/interior exactly the same. Add in a 502 Chevrolet big block/Turbo 400/12 bolt posi and covertly tub the rear and put widened steel wheel with the poverty caps. (or don’t cut up anything and just put the widest wheel/tire combo (again keeping the stock body color steelies) in the rear and burn rubber…
SOLD! That was quick.
more than i would ever pay for a 4dr nova. neat but not for that price
I say leave it and enjoy just as it is, at least for a while. Then maybe upgrade the mechanicals while maintaining the sleeper vibe. Big block is one path, but I think I’d go LS here. To each their own. Final step in the transformation could be a one-of-none 4-door SS theme. Lots of possibilities.
