Triple Almond Survivor: 1989 Ford Mustang LX Convertible

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

At first glance, this seems like any other white Ford Mustang. But as you keep staring at it, you can see it’s not a simple white paint job but a touch creamier than that, and as the seller confirms, it’s a rare triple Almond factory paint job, and it’s quite rare. Should you place extra stock (and value) in an LX convertible with the four-cylinder engine solely on the basis of the color code being rare? Well, in the world of collector vehicles, paint codes make a big difference in the final sale price, and there’s likely plenty of Fox body enthusiasts who’d like to own a rare bird like this. Find the Mustang here on eBay with an ask of $7,950 or best offer.

While the 4-cylinder may be less sought-after, it does make for an affordable, easy-to-live-with drop-top experience. The red striping in the door and bumper trim, along with the larger GT wheels, makes this Mustang look borderline sporting, even though its sole mission in life is to be a slow-riding comfort cruiser. The Almond paint really is surprisingly distinct; I can’t swear I’d spot the difference in traffic, but there’s more going on here than a flat white paint job. The top also appears to be Almond in color, and the seller seems confident this Mustang came with the rare off-white configuration from the factory.

The seller points out that a previous owner worked for a Ford dealer, and the Mustang was ordered for his wife. That makes a ton of sense considering the unique spec. The small details also point to an enthusiast ownership history, with the seller noting that it still comes with three keys, the convertible boot cover still in the leather carrying case, and the owner’s portfolio. The maintenance performed was apparently done by the Ford dealer where the previous owner worked, including a timing belt replacement, oil change, and brake job. The air conditioning apparently still blows cold, too. Seeing the seat covers tells you that the previous owner wanted to keep this Mustang pristine.

When you see a car that’s pretty close to base specification in condition like this, it indicates to me it enjoyed a life of careful stewardship. The 2.3L inline-4 cylinder engine was not powerful, good for around 90 horsepower and 120 lb.-ft. of torque. However, if you’re just looking for an easy-to-live-with and somewhat economical summer cruiser, it doesn’t get much better than this. The Mustang looks the part with the GT wheels, and the added bonus is clearly the rare color combo. The asking price seems more than fair to me, especially with under 100,000 miles on the clock.

I don’t think I’ve ever saw a Mustang GT or otherwise in this color. I like it. And you know what?? As I’m getting older I’d be ok with the 2.3 4 cylinder and an automatic. I mean, just look how nice this is. The price is very reasonable, and honestly, if it were up to this or a GT thats scruffy and needs work, I think I’d go for this one.

I’m right with Dave on this one. Looks to be in good condition. Unusual colors which actually look fine. Not expensive.

There are people in the collector car world who are drawn to vehicles no one kept (I’m in that group).

So, if you are over the need to be faster than the next guy, and just want a fun top-down cruiser, this is a great opportunity.

    Thanks Jeff.

When I was a kid (17) there was an old man that used to feed the ducks in the park. He drove a mustang in this same color however it was a notch back LX with a 5.0 and the same wheels. I loved that car and talking with the old man. If I could ever find that mustang I would buy it.
