Two Owners: 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

Born in 1966, the Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme joined the growing personal luxury car market that it took full advantage of by the 1970s. By 1970, it was on an equal footing with the Pontiac Grand Prix, riding on a variant of the A-body platform. This edition of the Supreme will be hard to lose in a parking lot with its bright red/orange paint and white interior with black accents. Located in Snohomish, Washington, this is a two-owner car with the seller having been the caretaker for the last 36 years. Available here on craigslist, it can be yours for $23,500.

For 1970, the Cutlass Supreme hardtop took on a formal look with a notchback roofline and a higher level of trim than other Cutlass models. “Strato” bucket seats were optional, and the original owner of this car elected to stay with a bench seat. So, the Turbo-Hydramatic transmission is column-shifted. A 350 cubic inch V8 was standard, and this one has a 4-barrel carburetor. Since this automobile has 124,000 miles, we assume it has at least been partially restored (no mention of that from the seller), though he/she does use the term “original”.

The seller has owned this Olds since 1990, so that means it was taken care of for 20 years by the original party. You would think 56 years’ worth of history would be included in the listing, yet no such details are provided. We’re told the rear bumper has been replaced with one from a 4-4-2 to accommodate the dual exhaust tips that support the 350 engine. Options on the car included factory air conditioning and front disc brakes, all of which we assume operate as they should.

Oldsmobile produced 90,000 Supremes in 1970, with 75% being 2-door hardtops like this one. The others were a convertible or a 4-door “Holiday” hardtop (no “B” pillars). This one looks like a survivor-quality vehicle that may need nothing more than someone new to show it the love. From “Curvette” comes another vintage tip!
