The hot new Ford Mustang set its own sales record in 1966, one that would never be repeated (607,000 units). The revised 1967 models would come close (472,000 copies), but competition had arrived, especially from the Chevrolet Camaro. The seller has a 1967 project in his garage that’s a work in progress, so the buyer will need to diagnose its current condition and decide where to go from there. Located in Lorain, Ohio, this project pony is available here on craigslist for $2,000. Barn Finder Barney is at it again with tips!

Sheet metal was all-new for the Mustang in 1967, and the engine compartment had been enlarged to accommodate big-block V8s (289 cubic inches had been the limit in 1966). The seller’s car has a 289, which Ford replaced with a 302 in 1968. We don’t know if the motor is original to the Ford or if it runs (no photos). It’s paired with an automatic transmission, status also unknown. The car apparently reached 80,000 miles before its transformation began.

We’re told that half of the bodywork needed on this Ford has been done, which suggests more remains. Then you can begin the reassembly process and apply new paint (it’s hard to tell what the original color was). The whole car was sandblasted, with primer applied, and floorboard replacements were part of the updates. The seller says some of the other pieces are new, but we’re only treated to one photo of the whole car.

The seller doesn’t indicate if anything is missing, and the project seems to be all bundled up in one half of the garage rather than being scattered hither, thither, and yon (neatness counts?). Projects like this are always difficult because you don’t really know how much has been done and how much remains until you get headfirst into the work. The price seems to be quite reasonable and may not even cover the work done thus far.
