Vintage Motoring At Its Finest! 1958 Morgan Plus Four

When nice British classics are around like this for reasonable sums of money, it gives me hope that someday my projects will be finished and I, too, will get the opportunity to find out that they are worth less than half of what I have spent on them. This stunning 1959 Morgan +4 is listed for sale here on eBay and up to this point unbelievably has only attracted one bid at its $20,000 opening price. There’s no reserve, so the car will sell (with all of the money going to charity) and the car is located in Seffner, Florida (right near Tampa, and only a day’s drive for me, I’ve looked already–sigh).

There’s something about a Morgan roadster that just rolls everything there is about vintage British sports cars into one package. Wind in the hair motoring, long hood complete with leather strap out in front of you, the knowledge that only suspension designed in the Edwardian Era (ok, not quite, but close) is keeping you from disaster and those lovely wire wheels all combine to make driving a Morgan an experience never to be forgotten.

This car has been the beneficiary of an older restoration and long-term ownership and is now an excellent-running driver that can be shown without embarrassment but driven with verve. Perfect!

The luggage rack and area behind the seats will work just fine for those getaway weekends for two.

The snug cockpit means you won’t be social distancing from your passenger, so make sure an appropriate motoring partner is chosen, or enjoy the drive by yourself. I really can’t see anything at all keeping someone from enjoying this car on a regular basis. Both club and marque support are good as well.

Being the +4 model it benefits from the Standard-Triumph wet-liner engine as seen in Vanguards and TR2-TR4As. Plenty of torque with moderate top end, but in a car that is as light as the Morgan (1,848 pounds) it’s plenty of power. Are any of you readers as enchanted with this true sports car as I am?

58 or 59? Pretty car and in another time I’d be happy to go poke around for someone, Seffner is less 10 miles away, east side of Tampa. Hope they raise a good amount. I’d give it to Feeding Tampa Bay.

Top notch English motoring – top down fun – show stopping when seen out in the wild being driven – a small toolkit and a wiring diagram and a willingness to pay attention and this will be reliable and a blast to drive.
A gracious gesture by the owner on the donation, thank You.
