Whole Collection For Sale!

Billed as “unusual,” I guess “usual” is a relative term. Buicks, AMCs, Mercedes-Benzes, customs…all of these are legitimate classics in their own right, and most seem to be in decent condition. Special thanks to Britt Boughey for letting us know about it! You can find just about anything and everything here on craigslist with what sounds like at least a partially-motivated seller.

Most interestingly, there’s a 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T lowrider that was supposedly built by “the man who put the Snoopys in the bay.” I had to Google what the heck that even meant, and I found a very interesting story about a man who did exactly what was advertised. It’s said to run great, and is still available for $20,000 at time of writing. With a Chrysler 440 making 375 horsepower, it’s worth it, even with gas at $6.00 per gallon.

My personal favorite, though, is the AMC AMX they have listed. Always had a soft spot for these things, and on top of that it was “built by a famous drag racer.” It’s a reluctant sale, they mention, and having been on the other side of reluctant sales, I always feel really bad about taking something that someone doesn’t really want to give up. Regardless, it’s an amazing car, and I would be curious to know which “famous drag racer” built it. Said to have a 390 with aluminum heads and an automatic transmission, it sounds like this car is its story, and a good story makes a good classic.

A lot of these cars have interesting backgrounds, and I would very much like to talk to the owners and curators of such a collection…but I’m not in the market for anything right now. If you are, give them a holler, but only if you’re serious about buying one of their cars. They seem to make that clear in the tail end of the ad, and the least we can do is respect their time.

I wonder what the money was on the Camaro? Too late now, I guess. I just sometimes think I ‘need’ an early second gen.

In one of the pictures (image 5 in the CL ad) of the red Corvair convertible it looks like (?) some kind of strap is holding the front bumper on. I guess that’s better than letting it drag on the pavement. lol.

    @ Ben:

I just read the “very interesting story” about Tyler Hoare. I thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks for posting.

If I am ever in San Francisco (not likely) not only will I try and trace the car chase route in Bullitt (at legal speeds, following the rules of the road), but now I will also go to Berkley to see the sculptures. He is an amazing artist in my opinion.

The 1967 Skylark GS and maroon early model Corvair convertible remind me of a scene from my parent’s driveway, circa mid 1970s. Ours was a Skylark Custom and the Corvair was bright red. Still, this owner had some of the same predilections that my papa did.
