What constitutes a 1-of-1 car? It happens when you go down the list of options and find that this car was the only one ordered with a certain option combination no other car has. This gorgeous 1970 Boss 302 is available here on craigslist in Windsor, California, for $89,900. This Boss 302 is one of the few factory-documented examples, with a numbers-matching DZE 302 engine, original paint, and original interior. The documentation includes the almost sacred Marti report and statistics. Thank you very much for the tip Jack M.

The car is painted in the original Medium Lime Metallic paint and has the original Black Deluxe interior. As a 56-year-old classic, it makes sense that the owners upgraded many components while retaining the most important original parts. That’s key to transitioning back to the stock configuration if that’s ever a consideration. As it sits, this Mustang is a strong runner, sounds amazing, and drives extremely well. Rack-and-pinion steering, new ignition parts, a custom exhaust, and a Tremec TKO-600 5-speed transmission all help make that possible.

DZE engine designation refers to the specific casting of a Boss 302 engine block. Bill Maier Racing rebuilt this 302, and it has only about 9,300 miles since then.  Ford engineers used the large-port, cant-valved cylinder heads being developed for the about-to-be-announced 351 Cleveland engine onto a standard 302-inch Windsor short block. The rated horsepower of 290 is widely considered conservative, with actual horsepower well over that. Factory options on the seller’s car include the 3.91 Traction-Lok rear axle, engine cooler package, Factory rear spoiler, Magnum 500 wheels, fold-down rear seat, factory all-around tinted glass, power steering, and a factory tachometer.

In 1970, Parnelli Jones etched his name into the record books by winning the Trans-Am manufacturers championship in a Boss 302. Built specifically for SCCA Trans-Am racing, the Boss 302 is one of the most sought-after Mustang models ever. The asking price listed here seems better than average, given the documentation and the availability of original parts. Can you see this Boss in your corral?

It’s not hard to love these cars. We were there when the car was first presented by IMSA and the looks alone blew us away. High WOW factor here.

Why would anyone advertise a car like this on Craigslist? This car could see 6 figures on a collector car oriented web site or collector car auction. Beautiful pony here.

Welcome to Kevin, dang, lot of new writers, I hope I haven’t missed anyone. This is our “fun” place, in a sea of mishigosh. Welcome aboard.
This can be brief, for me, but in 1970, there was simply NOTHING cooler than a Boss 302 Mustang. The 429 was rarely, if ever seen,( a paltry $230 more) and 302s were much more prevalent. Some people had no issues coughing up almost $4700 for one of these,($2900 for a base 1970 Mustang) and as hallowed as they are today, most were trashed. I think about how, in 1970, it was entirely possible for some punk kid, to walk into a Ford dealer, there were plenty to choose from,,with a pocket full of cash from Auntie Em,( enjoy, honey,,oh, I will), and drive out in one of these. Too bad today, it’s a bit more than Auntie ever dreamed of. Fascinating, Captain.

The only thing this car is missing is the shaker hood scoop. I like the fact the owner made drivability choices, that positively enhanced the driving experience, but retained all the parts and the fact this car might be wearing the original paint. For what the car is, I think the asking price is fair, but still out of the reach of many people. I always thought the 1970 was the apex of the Mustang.
