This 1998 Pontiac Firebird seems to deliver most of the attributes enthusiasts seek in a classic. It is a one-owner vehicle with a low odometer reading. It presents well and is loaded with factory options. The only thing it lacks is a V8 under the hood, although it should still provide a comfortable motoring experience. Its next journey could be to a new home, and I must say a big thank you to Barn Finder Jack M. for spotting the Firebird listed here on Craigslist in Tempe, Arizona. You could drive home behind the wheel of this turnkey classic after handing the seller $16,500.

The 1998 model year brought what would be the final significant cosmetic update to Pontiac’s Fourth Generation Firebird range. What few people knew was that it also represented the last hurrah, because the company elected to discontinue production at the end of 2002. This Firebird is a one-owner survivor finished in Code 13 Bright Silver. It presents well for its age, with no paint patchiness and a healthy shine. One listing image appears to show slight damage to the nose, though it could be little more than a photo imperfection. It would be worth reaching out to the seller to get to the bottom of it, as it might be the only cosmetic flaw requiring attention. The panels are straight, and the car’s location makes its rust-free status unsurprising. The trim, glass, and wheels are in good condition, and this Firebird scores bonus points for its T-Top.

Powering this Firebird is a 3.8-liter V6 producing 200hp and 225 ft/lbs of torque. A four-speed automatic transmission handles shifting duties, while power steering and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes were standard equipment in 1998. The seller doesn’t mention evidence verifying the odometer reading of 18,000 genuine miles, but the car’s overall condition makes that figure plausible. The seller indicates that they have meticulously maintained the Firebird, and Service Records may confirm their mileage claim. It won’t set its tires alight, but effortless long-distance cruising while returning excellent fuel consumption figures will be its forte. The seller recently fitted new tires, indicating that this Pontiac is a turnkey proposition with no fluid leaks or other issues.

This Firebird’s interior features no aftermarket additions, but it doesn’t really need them. After all, when you receive a couple of airbags, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, a power driver’s seat, power mirrors, a rear defogger, cruise control, and a premium ten-speaker Monsoon AM/FM radio/CD player, there isn’t much to add. Tech-savvy people might appreciate Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, but several companies now produce plug-in devices that can provide those features while integrating with the factory stereo. The Gray cloth trim perfectly complements the exterior paint shade and is in excellent condition. There is no significant wear, with the back seat in as-new condition. The Arizona sun hasn’t inflicted any damage, and there is no evidence of abuse or neglect.

Some readers will be disappointed that this 1998 Pontiac Firebird doesn’t feature a V8, but its V6 still promises respectable performance. It presents nicely, and if the apparent paint flaws on the nose are merely optical illusions, it has no cosmetic issues. Popping the T-Top panels and winding up the stereo would make life on the road very enjoyable, and isn’t that what the classic ownership experience is all about?
