2-For-1 Deal: 1968 Plymouth Road Runner

Hands up everyone out there who likes a 2-for-1 deal. That’s a lot of you, so this is a deal that you might find interesting. The owner has a pair of 1968 Plymouth Road Runners for sale here on Craigslist, and you can take the pair of them home for a seemingly reasonable price of $5,000. The two Plymouths are located in the North Shapleigh region of Maine.

It appears that of the two cars, the blue one might be the better proposition as a project car. It is said to be an all original 383ci car with an automatic transmission, and an 8¾” Sure Grip rear end. The car is virtually complete, but the frame rails and torque boxes will need some work, as will the floors and quite a few areas in the lower body extremities. The owner is also including a full new passenger side quarter panel with the cars.

The second Road Runner is a roller, and it was also a 383ci car, fitted with a 4-speed manual transmission and a Posi rear end. The engine and transmission from this car are both gone, but the Posi is still there. As with the blue car, there will be plenty of rust issues to deal with, but depending on the state of both vehicles, the red one may serve as a donor car for the restoration of the blue one.

There’s certainly some work involved in this restoration, but there is also the potential to produce one complete, nice Road Runner at the end of the process. From the way that the ad is worded, it would appear that the blue car is not only complete but that it might be a numbers-matching car. That would make it the prime candidate, with the red car possibly relegated to donor duties. With a good ’68 Road Runner being capable of selling for around the $32,000 mark, and a pristine example capable of achieving twice that price, this is definitely a package deal that’s worth a look.

Judging from the house to garage ratio, I think he’s got his priorities straight.

From the pictures it appears that the blue car is a ’68 w/ ’69 front clip, and the red car is a ’69 that has either a 68 Sport satellite or GTX rear trim panel…Whole lot of parts switching goin’ on.

In that area of the country – these are builders. Yes on the grilles being 1969 – 1968’s are tooo easy to screw up and yes on the trim panel. being 1968 GTX or Sport Satellite,

I would rather start with the red one as it is a coupe unless you were building a race car then start with the blue sedan.

The blue car is a post car (the post between the front and rear side windows) making it a sedan
