Ask a Chevy enthusiast which is their favorite Tri-Five year model, and you’ll get a reputable response, no matter which of the three they choose. It’s one of those questions that doesn’t have a wrong answer, as they’re all good choices and it’s just a matter of personal preference. The ’57 stands out from the rear, with those now-iconic tail fins, but it almost didn’t see the light of day as the powers that be at GM originally wanted an entirely new car for 1957. Fortunately, delays in production forced the ’55-’56 design another year, and thanks to that the 1957 Chevrolet has earned its honor as an important model in automotive history. If you’ve been in the market for a drop-top mid-fifties Chevy and favor the tail-finned model, this 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible would definitely be worth a look. It’s located in Cincinnati, Ohio, and can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $52,500.
Chevrolet produced several different versions of the Bel Air for 1957, and in total, more than three-quarters of a million of them rolled off the assembly lines. Even production numbers for the convertible nearly reached 50,000, so while it’s not really that hard to find one, it’s another story when one shows up that’s rust-free and has a claimed 28,335 original miles. That’s what the seller of this 1957 Chevy Bel Air says, and it’s a great-looking example that’s sure to make the next owner proud.
This ’57 has spent most of its life in Los Angeles, California, and is said to have always been garage kept and well maintained. It’s not a patched-up car like so many Tri-Fives but has always been rust-free, and although we don’t get a photo from underneath the seller says that the undercarriage looks just as good as the top side. The body is said to be as straight as an arrow and has had a repaint in its original color of Colonial Cream. The exterior chrome and trim are the original pieces, and they are stated as looking good.
The interior is said to need to be redone, although considering things inside have not received attention yet things still look pretty good in there. For 1957, the dashboard was updated from the previous model, and while there is no mention if the gauges are all working or not they do seem to be in good cosmetic condition. The convertible top is said to be in need of attention.
Under the hood, the V8 is said to start and run excellently, and the 3-Speed manual transmission shifts as it should. The car is also said to drive and handle well, with the seller believing it’s ready to be driven cross-country if the buyer lives far away. There’s also no reserve, so the high bidder will be the car’s next owner. What are your thoughts on this 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible?
Is it me or is the fuel line laying on the exhaust manifold?
Is that the fuel line laying on the exhaust manifold?
Yup ? ? ?
Idiots working on cars do things like that P Bear
For that kind of scratch, couldn’t they have sprung for a properly-fitting top?
Two 57 Chevrolets in one day. 70K for a hardtop and so far 50K for a convertible. Interesting to see how high the convertible will go.
Do not think the 3 speed on the floor came factory.
gear selector in dash shows it came with a auto powerglide.
It didn’t, if original it should have a 3 speed on the column. Also not sure of the color it may be a bit too intense yellow. I thought the color of yellow might be a little paler in color. The air cleaner and carb are not original. Questionable 28,000 miles.
Everything gets past you…..Deaks unite.
Par-done me, but the poor cosmetic condition of engine compartment, seats, top, etc. doesn’t equal the purported 28k miles. For what they are asking (and if the miles were indeed true), you’da thunk there could have been some freshening up. No underneath pics? Hmmmmmm
I think that fuel line against the exhaust manifold may interrupt that cross country trip the seller mentions.
All factory 3 speeds where on the tree
Not, what I would expect from a 28,000 mile car!
who nose it may burn down before it sold with the rubber fuel line on the manifold mabey they havent started it yet
I call BS on the mileage.
It’s 25k…after rolling over twice. And for such a “valuable” piece, that top is horrible.
Concerning the rubber gas line ,
It has to be the optional cold weather package!
Pre heat for better performance
Rare option in California
Probably also has the block heater
Before I bought this I’d need to see it is person. I have a low mileage 57 and have a pretty good idea what low mileage looks like. And this is definitely not it. I get the “story” but without it, it sure seems like a 128K miles car. Even with that in mind, it is probably worth around what they are asking if everything else looks good. It it were a 28Kcar and in 28K miles condition, it is far under value, perhaps as much as half price. In fact I would have already been arranging to go see it. Someone is going to own a really sweet car though.
