28k Original Miles: 1993 Ford Mustang LX

Hiding below this cover is what the owner describes as one of the cleanest Fox-body Mustangs you are likely to see today. Its condition is impressive, and its paint and trim code is relatively rare. It is now looking for a new home and has generated its share of interest since being listed for sale here on eBay. The 1993 Mustang LX is located in Michigan City, Indiana, and bidding currently sits at $10,600. However, the reserve hasn’t been met.

The photos that the owner supplies are limited, but they seem to show a Black Charcoal Mustang in excellent condition. The paint has a consistent shine, with no signs of any crazing or deterioration. Black cars can show many sins, but the panels on this car appear to be straight. The plastic trim and body moldings look perfect, and I can’t spot any issues with the glass. The owner purchased the vehicle 5-years-ago, and it appears that it has been kept in conditions that are close to ideal. The Mustang shows no signs of any developing rust problems, with the floors looking perfect. The car wears its original alloy wheels, and these appear to be free from any damage or staining. I have included a walk-around video at the bottom of this article. This reinforces how well the Ford presents.

Under the hood of the LX, we find the venerable fuel-injected 5.0-liter small-block V8, which punches out 205hp. This is backed by a 5-speed manual transmission, while the vehicle also features a 2.73 Traction-Lok rear end, power steering, and power brakes. This combination blessed the Mustang with reasonable levels of performance. It should be capable of ripping through the ¼ mile in 15.3 seconds. However, that figure only tells part of the Mustang’s story. Thanks to favorable gearing and aerodynamics, this little pony should be capable of galloping to 134mph. The owner describes the two-owner Ford as being well preserved. Apart from the tires, everything is claimed to be original. He indicates that the Mustang has a genuine 28,000 miles on the odometer. It isn’t clear whether he has evidence to confirm this, but the overall condition would suggest that the claim is plausible. It now only gets used for the occasional car show, but the Mustang is said to run and drive very well.

The interior of the Mustang is trimmed in a combination of Ruby Red cloth and vinyl. Once again, the overall condition looks extremely impressive. There are a couple of weak points with the trim in these Mustangs, and one of these is visible in this car. The elastic in the door pockets are prone to stretching, and they can begin to sag. That has happened to this LX, but this issue can be repaired without a lot of drama. The outer edges of the seats can also be prone to wear, but that is a problem that hasn’t afflicted this one. Otherwise, the rest of the upholstery, the plastic, the dash, and the carpet, are all in good order. It is a vehicle that will offer its next owner a potentially pleasant motoring experience. Air conditioning should make life comfortable on the road. The inclusion of power windows, power locks, power mirrors, cruise, and an AM/FM radio and cassette player all help the cause.

The Fox-body Mustang is a vehicle that had a long production run, and it did so for a good reason. People liked these cars when they were new, so they continued to sell in respectable numbers. When you look at the evolution of these cars, you can see how manufacturers like Ford were able to get their heads around tighter emission laws and begin to claw back lost performance. This one is a tidy example, and the Marti Report indicates that it is 1-of-78 to wear this color and trim combination. Regardless of that figure, it presents as a tidy survivor. If the mileage claim can be verified, then this rust-free survivor could be one worth watching. It should have plenty of life left in it, and values are continuing to climb steadily. That has the potential to make this a solid long-term investment that would offer an enjoyable classic motoring experience. That sounds like a winning combination to me.

A very nice late Fox Body. I wonder what the reserve is, I’m sure it is a solid number, as the clean low-mileage examples like this continue to increase in value.

Red interior: To our current eye, it looks kind of jarring. Interestingly, Ford (sort-of) offers a red interior on new Mustangs, it’s a bright red called “Showstopper Red.” But it’s just the seats. It for sure is something different from the usual black.

Feels like too much red. I like the black/red dash combo, black steering wheel, upper black door panels to help dilute the red interior like I have on my 90 Mustang LX.

In 89 on up too 93 they started making small changes to the internals over the years. Where as 87-88 are direct carryovers. Such as cam specs , mass air meter, so forth.

Not really, they changed the rating factors only. I worked for ford then and same motor as previous year.
