32K Miles! 1988 Ford LTD Crown Victoria

The seller refers to this 1988 Ford LTD Crown Victoria as a “collector-grade preserved example” and it sure looks like a time capsule. With just over 32,000 miles and all original other than maintenance parts, it looks like a winner. They have it listed here on eBay in Corning, New York, there is only one day left on the auction, and the current bid is $11,500 – with the reserve not being met yet.

The LTD Crown Victoria was made for one generation, from the fall of 1979 for the 1980 model year until the 1991 model year. We have seen a few nice examples recently and as mentioned, they were more than “good enough” for a lot of buyers who weren’t looking for a more showy Mercury Marquis or even fancier Lincoln.

After almost a decade, the LTD Crown Victoria line was updated for the 1988 model year with rounded lines. As “modern” as they looked at the time, I prefer the sharp-edged earlier cars, especially the fleet models designated as a Crown Victoria S, such as this cool black one. I’m a sucker for law enforcement vehicles anyway and they really look the part. That being said, there’s something about the luxury that a full-blown Crown Vic offers, such as in this gorgeous car.

The interior looks as nice as the exterior does, from the standard velour split-bench power front seats to the spacious rear seating area. It all looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Even the trunk looks unused. The seller says that this car is 100% original, but then they list a dozen or more things that have been changed. Of course, they mean original spec, I’m just having a bit of fun with how some ads are worded. This car really looks like a jewel box and it sounds like it’s been well-maintained with all of the new maintenance parts listed in the ad.

The whistle-clean engine is Ford’s 302-cu.in. OHV fuel-injected V8, which had 150 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. It sends the power through a four-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels and owners can expect around 18 mpg overall in smooth, quiet comfort. With the bids at $11,500 and the reserve not met, how much will this LTD Crown Vic sell for? $15,000? How much would you pay?

I agree with you Scott, the older squarer ones are a little better looking to me. And theres something about steel wheels and small hubcaps that I really like. But still, this is in phenomenal condition. Crown Vics were really every bit as nice and the Grand Marquis of this era. At least to me anyhow. Hope this goes to a good home and continues to be well cared for.

You may have sparked a debate similar to that of BMW 2002 owners….”roundies” versus square taillights.

      Love this!…this is worth it.
      A car you could drive.
Not powerful, but enough to enjoy the ride…
      Smooth V8 power…

I took a drive to the Anderson Motor Speedway (Anderson, Indiana) last Saturday to watch the Crown Victoria triathlon. There were 3 races spread through the evening: regular oval, reverse oval and figure 8. 24 Crown vics started the regular oval of which 17 remained for the figure 8. Lots of entertainment for $15…I didn’t spot any Grand Marquis or Lincoln town car interloper s.

It’s sad to see them destroyed like that.
      Hopefully they were complete rustbuckets.

Unfortunately it seems as if only the better than what we own at the time get destroyed 😔 Been there, seen that 😔

Better get a later model Crown Vic, before they all get wadded up, by the Yoo Toob crowd.

    Very very nice.

I worked as a cab driver for a couple years in the mid 90’s, and the company i worked for had some of these.

One day driving on the highway i decided to see what it would do flat out.

    105 mph was all in.

Remember Motor Trend doing a “Cop Car Challenge” in 1989, even a Slick Top 351 Crown Vic topped out at 117mph or so.

Which is why the California Highway Patrol used 5.0 Mustangs as their high speed pursuit cars I believe. Still…, if I had to ride in the back of a cop car, I’d prefer the Crown Vic.

@Bigdaddy……I’ve rode in both police cars 5.0. Mustang and the Crown Vic and a Chevy and a Plymouth. You’re right Crown Vic the best although who’s driving is most important you never want a dick. Aging man now with tons of memories. Good day

Always loved these cars too – I’m a fan of the ’88-newer models myself. Maybe someday I’ll pick one up for my fictitious late 80s Ford dream garage. Looks like the seller has a lot of newer ones in their collection in the background.

I like this car and it looks like it has been well maintained. It reminds me of the car Matlock drive in the tv series.
