36k Original Miles! 1973 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus

With all the resto-mods and non-original Mopars out there these days. it’s refreshing to see one as beautifully preserved as this 1973 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus here on Craigslist that’s so close to survivor status.  Sure, it’s not a Road Runner, but by ’73 that car was dying a slow death and personal luxury vehicles were becoming more and more popular, so for the time period it’s what the majority of buyers were looking for.  They don’t come much nicer than this one, so if you’ve been yearning to relive this era well trimmed-out comfortable rides the car is for sale at KC Classic Cars in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, with the asking price set at $29,500.

Barn Finds reader Gunter Kramer spotted this one and sent it our way, and we thank him here for the tip!  Not only do we get a good set of photos to look at, but the seller also provides a walk-around video that can be seen here on YouTube.  Clearly, this Plymouth is in upper-echelon condition all the way around, with the seller claiming it was a one-owner car until he recently acquired it to resell.  The car is said to have been kept in the same garage at the same address for the last 50 years, with 95% of the original paint remaining.  This was a period where finishes oxidized quickly, especially those with a metallic nature, and there is not a whole lot outside anywhere to find much fault with.  The chrome and stainless steel pieces are also looking superb.  The second photo above also shows the car with its original wheels, which are what the car is being sold with along with the whitewall tires.

There’s only one issue to report inside, and it’s that 2 pieces of the vinyl on the driver’s side seat and seat back were replaced about a quarter-century ago, and while they don’t match perfectly, it’s reasonably close and probably OK unless you’re a real stickler for that sort of thing.  The dash itself looks pristine and all the gauges are working properly, plus this one’s got the console with a Slap Stik shifter, which is always a welcomed touch.  The trunk looks like it hardly ever carried anything, with the original jack and spare tire still in place.

Everything under the hood is stated to be factory as well, with that 318 said to only have 36,000 miles on it.  The seller says it runs fantastic, and while there were a few paint touch-ups made under the hood, that blue color on the block and valve covers is original, which seems like a pretty good testament to the low mileage claim.  The seller ends his video by saying he thinks this one needs to be preserved in its present condition, and while I wholeheartedly agree, it’s ultimately up to the next owner on what to do next.  Would you keep this one as a time capsule or do something different?

Although this is a real BEAUTY, I was disappointed in the change from the fuselage look of the 71-72’s. Having said that, I would NOT evict this one from my garage; I think I could even manage to live w/ the seat color mismatch, LOL! GLWTS!! :-)

I think the 73/74s were actually nicer. They look great in red with a white interior. Is this 360 a 2bbl?

        Yes, it’s a 2bbl.

Ironically in 1973 when I bought my Sebring + the dealer had a red with white interior and vinyl top. It was a fully loaded, pw, pdl, factory cassette, 400 c.i. It was used traded early. He also had a white one with a black vinyl top with ice blue interior that was a factory executive car. As much as I liked the red one, two issues made me pick the white one. Number one, since I was trading my ‘70 Sport Fury 440 getting 7-8 mpg and the 400 was a noted gas hog I opted for the 318. Secondly, the white one came with a full warranty. Still have her looking like I just drove her out of the showroom.

I’m with Moparman, the 71-72 are my favorite and have always wanted one, going back to when I first got my license.

It’s a shame that we are at this type of pricing now. It seems like only several years ago where this would have been less than 20K and would have been a hard sell at that. 30K was reserved for nicely restored Barracudas.

Guy I worked with about 40 years ago had a special edition, at least he said it was one the same color but it was a I think a 74 or 5 with a beige vinyl. It had some kind of factory again I think Aztec sun logo on it.Don’t remember what it was called .Was his baby.Never cared for these. His had a 318 automatic.I had a 66 Impala 396 4 speed with a 456 gear and used to laugh at him when he said you wanna race.Man he loved that car.

It was the “Sundance” package…and it would’ve been a ’74 (that was the only year they made them and that was the last year for this body style). They came in two colors, Aztec Gold Poly and Spinnaker White. The package included; a canopy vinyl roof, “Premier” wheel covers, cool gold/black/white upholstery, and the Sundance roof stripe and decals on the header panel and decklid. They made somewhere between 300 and 500 of them if you believe the rumor mill (or the internet)…my guess is that there were more than that though, as they seem to still be fairly plentiful.

Fifth digit on the VIN is a G, therefore this car has a 318 in it, not a 360. Otherwise, an absolutely beautiful car. And you are correct, Grant, these cars are stunning in red with a white interior, especially if it also has a white vinyl top.

Ad doesn’t say it’s a 360. Where did you come up with that, Mike?

Says the 360 has only 36.000 miles on it.

Mark, the writer said that, not the seller. Watch the video.

This is a beautiful survivor Mopar and should be kept this way. Not that many original Mopars left. I prefer the Magnum 500 wheels and thin white wall tire. Like in the photo. Since it’s a 318 motor $25,000 is fair price for this Sebring Plus. Good luck to the next owner. 🐻🇺🇸

The Magnum 500s were likely original to this car, Big Bear. The rallye wheels definitely aren’t from a ’73 (the centers appear to me to be from a ’70 model), and I’m guessing that the reseller had this set sitting in a corner somewhere and figured that he’d really want those Magnums for something down the road.

Definitely a clean car! That are only originally once! Good car to putt around in because you are not going to spin the tires or win any races. These were heavy cars and with only a 318 2barrel and the A/C on! You may have a line of cars behind you! But again, super nice ride and my Grandfather would love it! But 30k for this car is overpriced by 10k.

Back in 1998 I had a green 2dr Satellite Sebring Plus with about 85,000 ish miles I got out of Deb Brown’s storage yard in Parker AZ. It had zero rust, the interior had the bench seat with column shift and was in nice shape, and as I remember either the 360 or the 383 engine which ran fine. The only major flaw was the sun baked part vinyl top.
I never understood it, but I couldn’t give that car away.
After 2 years of having it for sale I finally sold it to a Desert Valley Auto for I think $2500.
My my how times do change (and markets)

In 1977, I had a ’70 Chevy Nova with the grandma 307 in it. The local Chevy dealer had a ’73 Sebring on the lot, 400, auto, in that standard green color, and in great shape. I was looking for a faster car and thought “it’s almost like a Roadrunner!” Boy was I wrong. That 400 couldn’t get out of it’s own way. My Nova, with it’s boy racer goodies on it, was quicker. I test drove her, parked it back in it’s spot and politely moved on.

It really is so unfortunate that this car was bought after 1972 cause you missed the boat !!!! Pretty much everything sucked after 72 the lines of this car were destroyed and its beautiful chrome front end was gone !!!
