The Cutlass Supreme joined the Oldsmobile lineup in 1966 as an upscale mid-size coupe. Public interest would grow year after year, and it would go on to become one of the best-selling U.S.-built automobiles. This 1977 edition in Brougham trim looks like a real beauty whose reported 37,500 miles could be legit. If you’re a fan of the Colonnade-era Oldsmobiles, they may not come any nicer than this one. Located in Reno, Nevada, this Cutlass is available here on craigslist for $11,500. Hat’s off to Tony Primo for this survivor-quality tip!
Rear-wheel-drive Supremes were part of Oldsmobile’s sales literature for more than 20 years. I got caught up in the frenzy and bought one new in 1983. Though it only had a V6 engine, it was a great car that served my family well for a dozen years. The 1977 editions, the last year before the downsizing of GM’s mid-size cars began, set record sales at 437,000 copies, including a whopping 124,000 coupes in Brougham trim like this one. Sales were up by one-third over the prior year.
The Bright Red paint (looks orange) on this Olds looks original and well-maintained. It has a matching Landau vinyl tip which is nice, but not perfect. Open the doors, and you’ll see more of these colors in the interior, which looks quite comfortable but typical of how luxury cars were outfitted in those days. Power accessories are all over the place, including windows, seats, and door locks. The auto even has a working factory 8-track tape player that comes with an Oldsmobile demo tape!
Pop the hood and you’ll find a 350 cubic inch “Rocket” V8, one of Oldsmobile’s most enduring engines of the 1960s and 1970s. It’s paired with an automatic transmission, and we assume the machine runs and drives as well as it looks. Not that you would ever trust it, but the car’s original spare tire resides in the trunk for emergencies. If the mileage is correct, then this automobile has seen only 800 miles of asphalt every year since the new.
Finally a nice car at a reasonable price. These were everywhere back then
They were everywhere because they were fantastic! I had a 1981 and couldn’t hold a candle to the older models.
Holy crap Tony, nice find!!!
Looks like a fair price for such a clean car
My all original 76 Buick Rega S/R 29000 miles I’ve had it since new. Special order Hurst TTops
My grandparents bought one of these new in medium blue with a white landau top. Not loaded like this one, but still a nice car. Those loose-pillow seats always looked inviting. It was traded in five years later on an ’82 Chrysler New Yorker (M-body) that had seats that were even more plush! Sadly those days of comfortable interiors are long gone.
The first Cutlass Supreme was the 1966 Holiday hardtop sedan. Other body styles came along for 1967.
Nice car in great shape, but I’m not a big fan of that Colonnade style, except for the Pontiac. Like the late eighties Cutlasses better.
The later G-bodies were much lighter also, but these later Colonnades are growing on me again. They have a lot of presence and fewer remain than the G-bodies.
Gorgeous car!!! I’d put dual exhaust, preserve and enjoy it for what it is, a beautiful, comfortable Olds that is very comfortable with almost every nice option. I wish I could buy it.
Nice! My brother had a ’77 Salon – beautiful car. Love those Colonades.
I also had a 77 Salon, white with blue interior, like you said beautiful car and comfortable too.
Beautiful car. Looks like an aftermarket AC compressor.
It is a replacement for the old A6 compressor. The A6 is no longer available new or rebuilt.
It’s a Brougham. It’s loaded and low mileage. The paint is incredibly red. Great looking car right there.
Nice car at a super reasonable price! Makes me wish I wasn’t 2350 miles away, or it might be sitting next to it’s sibling, my 17,800 mile black ’77 Supreme Elegante T-top car!
Definitely a very nice car at a fair price, though the badly faded carpeting and floor mat with a hole seem to show more of a 137K car to me. That’s still only 2,900 miles a year.
I think those are medallions on the floor mats, not holes. Both sides show the same circular pattern in the center. Regardless, those aren’t the OEM mats anyway. The mats they came with were hourglass shaped and molded in rubber. Similarly, carpets (especially red ones) will fade with the car sitting still. Fading doesn’t necessarily indicate high miles, just outdoor storage.
Been looking to replace the ’77 I got rid of years ago. Mine was silver and had t-tops, but this one is tempting. I traded mine in for $300 in 1987 on my camaro. How stupid was I?
Just bought 4 seasons reman A6 at auto zombie, they’re available.
I think the odometer says 137,545 which is more like it.
When you click on the actual ad, it says 137,000 miles.
The color is called cinnabar had to same color on a 80 model
Even at 137K this is in remarkable shape. The price is fair, as Colonnades in gorgeous shape like this one are starting to show respect with collectors. And with the mileage this can be enjoyed on weekends without affecting its value much, just don’t treat this like a daily commuter car!
I agree is in good shape with 137,545 miles for $11,500 is a fair deal, however when is represented for 37,500 miles and saying that looks legit is a different story.
I bought one of these in 1991’ 115k looked great rode and drove great it wasn’t mint but very nice 20 footer. $400
Long gone
