Found in a barn and in running and barely driving shape, this 383 powered ’65 Fury III seems like a no brainer for the $2,950 asking price! Packing a running 383 this Fury is certainly an attention grabbing find. The engine is a runner, and the car can actually be gently driven, but still needs work to be a street driver. Recently given a tune up, as well as a break job on the front, this Mopar still needs further brake line work, as well as fuel work and repair to the fuel tank. A thorough cleaning under the hood and some preventative maintenance would likely have this beauty humming like a top.
Miraculously even the interior is quite reasonable in this very affordable classic. There is some damage to the back of the bench, but in my opinion it matches the character of the car. In fact, the only real gripe I have about the interior is the minor damage to the seat, and the faded carpet. Otherwise, it doesn’t get much better than this for a car of this background.
What is also surprising is that this Mopar isn’t eaten up with cancer. There is some evidence of some surface rust, and a couple of small pin holes, but there is no blatant rot in the rockers, or quarters. The paint is well worn, but in my opinion holds a rather cool character. Personally the only changes I would make to the exterior of this Fury are fresh tires, and a gentle cleaning. Sort out the mechanical systems, and really you would be left with a cool and fun muscular classic. Who could possibly ask for more? Would you roll the dice on this 383 Barn Find?
1st of all, it’s not a 383, it’s a 318,( dist. in the back) which is probably better for today. These motors would run on anything that would burn. Very nice cars, a bit of a project, they really should be nicer than this to start with, but not many left today and if you have a hankerin’ for big mid 60’s Plymouths, here you go.
Gone. I am not seeing a brake line, unless it drops straight down from the M/C. Someone is going to have some fun at a nice price.

That wide block 318 with 727 auto was amazing.
Punters would pull up beside me and laugh. But after they saw me blow them away, I was the guy smiling at them. In my rear view mirror 😂🤣
This one is a little dear to me. I’ve got mine just about finished. The 383 is being assembled for some summertime driving.
I had a 1960 Dodge dart Phoenix with the 318 4bbl w/ push button trans 280hp let me walk a lot of fools who thought they were all that. Billybo
Ha, I was going to say the same thing. No 383 – looks like a 318 Poly. Still a cool-as-hell car!
Had a 65 Coronet 500 with the wide block 318 2 bbl. Put a 4bbl manifold and carb from a 63-64 Plymouth on it, nothing else, and it became a real “sleeper”. Dad had a 65 Valiant Signet with the Baracuda Formula S 273 in it and it also was a screamer. Amazing what those small block molars are capable of.
They made for a great Street Stock.

My uncle had one of those in a ugh 4 door, boring car would have been great if 2 door like this one, car had gusto, I remember brake Reving those polyglass tires, silly kid

As soon as I saw the 383 heading and the plain V8 badging on the front fender I knew something wasn’t right. The underhood shot confirmed my suspicions because the engine was obviously a 318.
I like the 65 styling but think that 66 was much better. Conversely I love the 65 Dodge c-body styling but don’t care for the 66 version.
The first car I bought back in 1978 was a 66 Sport Fury coupe with the poly 318/727 combo. The 230 hp (gross) of that 318 was just fine for moving that car around.
