Many enthusiasts remember the 1960s as the era of the horsepower war. Manufacturers appealed to the hearts of buyers with performance leanings by bolting potent motors under the hoods of their latest offerings. This 1969 Chevrolet Impala SS 427 Convertible perfectly embodies that approach. With 390hp on tap and a broad selection of factory options, it should provide its new owner with a rapid and extremely comfortable wind-in-the-hair motoring experience. I must say a big thank you to Barn Finder Curvette for spotting the Impala listed here on eBay in Springfield, Ohio. You could become its new owner for $59,900, although the seller will consider offers.

Chevrolet unveiled its Fourth Generation Impala range for the 1965 model year, and it is relatively certain that those treading the corridors of power at Head Office did so with a spring in their step. Buyers did more than embrace the Impala; they handed over their cash as fast as cars rolled off the line. The Impala set a new sales record in its first year and continued to deliver strong results until production ended in 1970. The first owner ordered this Impala SS Convertible in 1969, teaming Butternut Yellow paint with a contrasting Black power top. The seller states that it features “excellent cosmetics,” and it is hard to argue with that assessment. The paint shines intensely, the panels are laser-straight, and the image gallery confirms that the car is rust-free. With spotless trim and glass, and sparkling Rally wheels, this SS makes a positive first impression. However, lifting the hood reveals that it is far more than a pretty face.

The performance leanings pursued by many manufacturers during the 1960s are perfectly embodied in this Impala. Its engine bay houses a 427ci V8, with the Sales Brochure confirming that the big-block delivers 390hp and 460 ft/lbs of torque. The motor would provide an effortless driving experience, further enhanced by the three-speed Turbo Hydramatic transmission, bulletproof 12-bolt rear end, power steering, and power brakes. Purists will welcome the news that this classic is numbers-matching. It is also in excellent condition, making it a turnkey proposition with no known mechanical issues. All the buyer needs to do is slip behind the wheel, twist the key, and drive off into the sunset.

The first owner didn’t focus exclusively on outright performance, equipping this Impala’s interior with some very desirable factory options. These include air conditioning, power windows, a power trunk release, a tilt wheel, a console, and an AM radio. The Black vinyl trim looks exceptional, with no wear or other issues. The faux woodgrain hasn’t faded or lifted, adding further to this interior’s luxurious feel. The pad is crack-free, as is the wheel. I can’t spot any aftermarket additions or modifications in the seller’s image gallery.

This 1969 Impala SS 427 Convertible undoubtedly possesses the “wow” factor. From its spotless presentation to the big-block under the hood, it is a classic guaranteed to set hearts fluttering and pulses racing. The seller’s BIN figure sits at the top end of the market, meaning that they are probably pitching this classic to a limited buyer pool. However, recent successful sales suggest that the price is realistic. If they are flexible, and their feedback indicates that they might be, a lower price may be possible. Does that tempt you to pursue this Impala further?

Sweet car with the right boxes. Checked on order…
Wow. Just wow.
bt
Amazing car. Was hoping to see the 4sp. Only because I truly believe, other than riding a motorcycle.. a convertible w stick is the most fun to drive.
This is very nice, just not 100% correct. Top is has plastic back window. not glass. Fiber Optics are on top of the front fenders, but the rear set (should be on top of rear seat directly in the center, if it is even there) is obscured in every picture. Driver’s seat bottom is a generic replacement – very flat. The air cleaner is open element, like the 425 horse 427. 390 horse 427 has a closed element with a short snorkel. The
3955270 is the correct block casting, but is the VIN number and specific SS427 ID still stamped on the block? In person inspection definitely required!
Your point?
I just love the ’69 Chevrolet. IMO the last, best Impala with the loop bumper and integrated taillights. Beige gives it a sleeper vibe while the extensive options say that this car was intentional. What a beauty.
I have a friend that had one of these cars in the mid 70’s. It was a green hardtop. It was in like new condition. He never liked the car because he said it was like a Grandpa’s boat and sold it for $1,500 dollars. I’m sure he would like to have Grandpa’s boat back now. It’s so sad that we make mistakes like this when we’re young and Dumb. 😭
really nice convert. love the butternut yellow. only things i would do would be w/w tires and a rosewood steering wheel
I like everything about this Impala. Big block for a big block worthy car. Nicely optioned. Top dollar, but a top car for sure.
Funny – Barry showed up at Norma’s cafe with his look-a-like yellow SS427 convert – I would guess after seeing my red SS427 convert as I had been going since 1975….
