4-Speed Estate Find: 1977 Chevy Corvette

$5,500 looks like a good deal for a 1977 Chevy Corvette with a claimed original drivetrain and a 4-speed manual transmission. Hiding out up in Maine, this car is part of an estate clean-out the seller is assisting a friend with, as his colleague’s father has passed away and it’s time to move his unfinished projects along. Find the Corvette here on craigslist or go here if the ad disappears.

Looking quite dusty but complete, the Corvette was apparently one of several cars the seller acquired in the estate purchase. He claims to not know much about Corvettes but does note that the original L82 powerplant is still installed, along with the factory T-Top panels. It apparently did run when it was moved to its current garage but has been idle for the better part of ten years.

The interior looks surprisingly nice, and it’s a treat to see the manual gear shift pattern inside. So many of this generation ‘Vette seem to be automatics that this one gets some extra affection from me for having three pedals instead of two. Despite being in the snowy climate of Maine, there’s no obvious corrosion damage and the inside is clean enough to be a summer driver-only.

The trouble with these is that there’s plenty of examples to choose from, many of which are road-worthy. The asking price seems fair for a project if the floors and frame are solid, but underside inspection is a must. The seller seems open to reasonable best offers, so perhaps this 4-speed, L82 car could be acquired for $4K or a touch below. I’d love to know what else the seller acquired as part of the estate clean-out.

BFers- I need help! I have $5500 to spend. Should I buy the K-car or the 1984 Corvette?

      Kidding!

There’s no way this listing would last that long. It just seems to me that on some CL ads I read, based on just the wording and pictures posted, that I just know in my gut that everything is legit. Consequently, those are the same listings that disappear faster than a dozen fresh Krispy Kreme glazed donuts.

Someone got a good buy. Sure is nice seeing a 10K car going for 5K rather than the opposite, ads like these make reading the classifieds worthwhile.

They didn’t make many L-82 4 speed Vettes for 77 even though they made close to 50,000 Vettes in 77. Still they don’t bring a lot of money but are fun to drive. This one needs more work than I would want to do.

Loks like it is in the earthquake belt with all those cracks in the floor. Prospects better hurry before it gets swallowed up!!!!

I think the price was reasonable and seemed like an honest ad, 4 speed is a big boost, Motors were anemic by this year but easy to correct that with std hot rod parts. Some got a good deal, especially for a East Coast car, needs a FPI of course, but Im betting it was a sweetheart.

Often overlooked styling point: this was the last of the “tunnel back” roof lines.

Brought back memories of my own ’77 in this color, which Chevy called “Oxblood Red”.

Medium Red or Dark Red. No “Oxblood Red” offered. This includes exterior and interior.
