43k-Mile Survivor: 1965 Oldsmobile F-85

The Oldsmobile F-85 debuted in 1961 at General Motors as a “senior” compact, alongside the Pontiac Tempest and Buick Special. All three cars became mid-size automobiles in 1964, shifting from unibody to body-on-frame construction. This 1965 edition is said to be the Deluxe model, which was similar in trim to the Cutlass. Located in Hamersville, Ohio, the seller has owned it for about seven years and made some tweaks here and there. It’s available here on Facebook Marketplace for $14,000 or something close to that. A nod to T.J. for another great tip!

Oldsmobile invented the F-85 name to tie into the Space Age revolution at the time. It may have been inspired by a then-famous jet fighter plane. It would remain in the Oldsmobile mix until 1972, after all the Olds intermediates were branded as the Cutlass, a more popular moniker. This car is described as a survivor by the seller, so we assume much of it is original.

The seller has only added 1,200 miles to the odometer since buying the car in 2019 (it now reads 43,772 miles). The prior owner secured it in 2016 and made it roadworthy, which suggests it could have been a barn find 10 years ago. It’s a good driver quality automobile and has made at least one cross-country trip, according to the seller. It comes with a bunch of documentation that appears to date back 60 years.

While the car is far from perfect, it has some newer touches. The carpeting and upholstery have been redone, some gauges added, and parts of the engine have been painted. The 330 cubic inch V8 runs well and is backed up by an automatic transmission. Some extra parts will be included, such as a set of wire-style wheel covers and a rebuilt carburetor and starter. This is a factory A/C car that has a leak that needs to be repaired. The seller has run out of time and space to keep the car and hopes to recoup most or all of his $14k investment.
