Merely mentioning a Charger Daytona sparks intense excitement among Dodge fans, as most immediately picture one of those legendary B-Bodies with an aerodynamic nose and a huge wing jutting out of the rear. The NASCAR-inspired Daytona lasted only one year before the name took a break, but it returned in the mid-seventies as a mostly appearance package on the fourth-generation Charger. While it didn’t include anything special under the hood, this 1977 Dodge Charger Daytona here on Facebook Marketplace has been upgraded with a 440 engine, so it’s much better than anything that could have come from the factory. It’s priced at $16,000 and located in Greenville, Ohio, and we’d like to thank reader PRA4SNW for finding it and sending us the tip!

The Charger spent much of the early to mid-seventies primarily evolving into a personal luxury coupe, and in 1975 it began sharing nearly the same exterior as the all-new Chrysler Cordoba, and it also included a Daytona option until 1977. Depending on the year, that package added either 2-tone paint or sporty stripes, and this one has the latter. The seller reports that this Charger Daytona just returned from a body shop visit, where they repaired a few scratches and added pinstripes. There’s no information on the car’s history or whether it ever had more significant bodywork, but the exterior looks sweet, and I’m sure this one turns its fair share of heads!

In 1969, the original Charger Daytona came standard with a 440 Magnum, with the only other choice being the famed 426 Hemi. The 440 soldiered on as an elective for the Charger through 1974, but when the Daytona returned in 1975, it was no longer an option. It’s not disclosed what was originally under the hood, but the bay now has a 440, which would have been nice if Chrysler had kept it available in the first place. The owner says the big block is low-mileage and has a new distributor, plus a fresh dual exhaust system and Flowmaster mufflers. It’s reported to run great, so hopefully, this one’s ready to get behind the wheel and enjoy.

We only have one interior photo, but it’s enough to show the condition appears exceptional and looks like what I’d expect from an almost 50-year-old vehicle with a claimed 60,000 miles if properly cared for. Stepping inside immediately gives occupants a sense of luxury, and the sporty T-tops add a bit of flair. This 1977 Dodge Charger Daytona seems to tick a lot of great boxes, and I’m thinking it’s well worth near the asking price. How about you?

What a great looking – and performing – package! At a bargain price, this shouldn’t last long.
Very sweet Mopar!! Gotta love the badge/sticker engineering on these car!!
Can the stock rearend handle the 440’s serious twist ?
The school secretary had one of these thecpaint scheme in the two tone blue and the ‘turbine’ wheels. I like the rallye wheels better. Check out this brochure, 400 is on the option list – with standard Lean Burn.
