46k One-Owner Cream Puff! 1975 Lincoln Continental Mark IV

This fine-looking 1975 Lincoln Continental Mark IV in Brooklyn, New York seems to have avoided the rough treatment normally associated with that location’s salty roads and salty self-absorbed drivers. Coming to market for the first time since new, this one-owner gem features “all available options” including silver leather, moon roof, and more. As we head to press it awaits an opening bid of $10,000 here on eBay.

Oddly the listing eschews photographs showing either side of the car, but what we can see looks shiny and well kept. Garaged its entire lifetime, this Mark IV deserves similar treatment by its new owner. Decades ago I looked at one of these for my second car, and I remember thinking that the package shelf behind the capacious rear seat could easily hold an array of giant speakers.

Normally we talk about “jamming” or “wedging” a 460 cid (7.5L) engine into a car, but in the Lincoln, it’s about five feet from the grille and a yard from each side. This view supports the claim that the big coupe has served up fewer than 50,000 luxurious miles. If this silver ghost truly packs all options that would include the “Sure-Track” anti-lock (rear) braking system, power vent windows, and automatic lights that come on, dim, and delay shutoff just like modern luxury cars.

Considering the popularity of cloth interiors during the ’70s, immaculate leather is a real find. Lincoln applied the name “Continental” to all 1975 models, so the “Mark IV” distinguishes this one from the more staid two and four-door “Town Car” and “Continental” models. This color combination was only available as part of the Silver Luxury Group. Thanks to lov2xlr8.no for some details. The locking hood release visible in this picture was an extra-cost option. Breaking the five-digit barrier for an opening bid definitely draws a line in the sand, but you’ll see boatloads of ’70s Marks on the market that pale beside this silver special. I’d proudly hire a couple of tug boats and nestle this stately barge into my garage… if it would fit. Then I’d feel compelled to take up cigar smoking. Can you see yourself piloting this ’70s motor yacht?

I’ll never see one of these behemoths this without thinking of another behemoth named William Conrad.

Who would you rather be: Jim Rockford who got the c–p knocked out of him twice a show, or Frank Cannon who spent 30 minutes of every hour being the wheel of his Mark?

Frank Cannon, hands down. I always enjoyed that show a lot more. Gotta love his judo chops and flipping.

Whenever I see one of these in the flesh, it always amazes me just how long that hood was. Compared to new cars today, just think how bizarre are the proportions and how this type of car has vanished from the automotive landscape.

Thus, that’s why having a Mark IV would now be a unique, and fun, experience.

This one looks good. We sometimes say a car is “triple black,” here we have “triple silver.”

No mention and didn’t see one, but I wonder if this one has the power glass Moonroof? THAT option alone is the icing on the cake.

I know it’s a lot of work to click the link and actually read it so I did the grunt work for you…yes, it has the moon roof.

What a lazy seller, can’t even take pics of the whole car. For that alone I won’t even consider it.

In the seller’s defense, it’s near imposible to get the entire side of these yachts in one decent photo. You have to stand 10ft away to get a full shot of this ‘pretty plus-sized’ beauty queen!
The enormity of these Lincolns is amazing, especially measured against today’s full sized cars.

Yeah, if you have a flip phone. You’re not serious are you with that reply?

if you have a lot of room, and don’t mind zero gas mileage, this is a great driver. And forget about parking if you live in a City. But I really like American barges, and this fits the bill. This is a car you motor in; you don’t actually drive it. You aim, and it does the rest.

I always loved these back in the day, except for the guard rail type bumpers. The 72′ model had the tight body bumpers which gave a much smoother look. But these are approaching 72′ Ford Torino money, so I’ll stick with a Gran Torino sport for now.

There’s a beautiful ’72 with 47k miles available at Gateway Classic Cars’ Kansas City showroom … in stunning red, black landau roof, and red leather interior listed at $21,500 …
