$5,000! 1979 Lincoln Continental Town Coupe

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This car is 19.5 feet long! Be sure to measure your garage before grabbing this 1979 Lincoln Continental Town Coupe if you plan on parking it inside. It’s a monster of 1970s excess, but in a very good way. The seller has this luxury coupe listed here on eBay in Bryantown, Maryland, and they’re asking a mere $5,000 or best offer. I don’t have a clue how this one is still for sale.

The photos are a bit sneaky; you haven’t been able to see the headlights in either front 3/4 view. If you check out the eBay link to see the photos, you’ll see that the headlight doors are open, so there must be an issue with the vacuum lines. It isn’t mentioned in the listing, however. I’m assuming they close again once the car is running, but we don’t know for sure.

“Standard coach lamps and full vinyl roof” are said to add an elegant touch to the Continental Town Coupe, according to a 1979 brochure. I agree, but a half-vinyl top would have looked great here, too. Maybe better? This car looks fantastic overall, but there are a couple of small dings and a small crease by the right front marker light on the side. Also, the vinyl roof has a piece missing and a tear below the rear window. There is also a small rust spot, not a hole but missing paint that’s turned to surface rust, above the right rear wheel well.

These are the seats you want in a big Lincoln of this era, big, puffy leather seats, in this case, in a “light champagne” color. They look almost perfect, both front and rear. These nice leather seats alone are almost worth the asking price, or a nice offer close to their asking price. Plus, you get the rest of the car for free.

The 400-cu.in. OHV V8 was the only engine available in this car in 1979, and it would have had 160 horsepower and 315 lb-ft of torque when new. Backed by an automatic sending power to the rear wheels, the seller says this one runs great and has a new alternator, carb, radiator, water pump, and new brakes. What’s your offer on this big luxury cruiser?

It doesn’t look bad, it’s a bit tough around the edges, but it’s a $5,000 car, you don’t get perfect for that. Unfortunately it’s sits right in the middle of cars that compete on price. The listing has just over 11 days left, which means it conceivable it’s been listed for nearly three weeks if the sell did a 30 day listing.

The rust over the drivers rear wheel well isn’t surface rust. Surface rust can be dealt with by using a Scotch bright pad.

Sadly, the ’79’s got the slug 400 engine. But, this would be great car to celebrate “earth day” in.

I wonder how many stylists Ford had assigned to…. seats.

Once again, I must Declare, It’s HUGE!it It guzzles gas! It pollutes the air! It scares the birds! Other cars part like the Red Sea to get out of the way! What’s NOT to love? In spite of 400 engine, minor issues It’s a Bon Marche! Less than $1.00 a pound. You can’t buy hamburger for that. And this is PRIME beef.

Had one similar. At 80mph, it was like sitting in my plush living room recliner.

As mentioned, I also had a 78 Town Coupe. You’re right on target. My current 2007 Signature Limited is the last of LINCOLN, what a Luxury CAR should be and ONCE was!

Luxury at its finest. But where are the fender skirts? Otherwise nothing wrong with it.

Last of the huge Lincolns. And my favorite color! AND leather. Out of all my 70s cars, not one had a velore interior. Always leather. This car was made for me!

My 5-foot mom had a ’79 Town Coupe in black. It was a huge car, and she always said she loved driving it to shop since she and her lady friends had lots of room for packages……the trunk was enormous.

I recall the liner ads from the late 70s Detroit News, “some rust, still runs good”. Nice looking old Town Coupe. Same size as my 1500 pickup. Would be a smoother ride. Handling, not so sure.
