I think every enthusiast has a classic they wished they could have bought off the showroom floor, but circumstances never let that dream become reality. If you felt that way about the 1990 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z, salvation may be at hand. Our featured IROC-Z presents superbly, featuring new paint, graphics, and a retrimmed interior. The first owner paired the desirable Tuned-Port Injection V8 with a five-speed manual transmission for a rewarding driving experience. Barn Finder Curvette deserves a pat on the back for spotting the Camaro listed here on Craigslist in Klamath Falls, Oregon, for $29,999, with the seller indicating that figure is pretty firm.

Chevrolet offered 1990 Camaro buyers a choice of seven paint shades, and I’ve always considered Dark Red Metallic the pick of the bunch. It is a rich, classy color, and in good condition, it looks stunning. This IROC-Z ticks those boxes and recently received a thorough cosmetic refresh. The seller massaged the panels before applying fresh paint and new decals to restore the car’s youthful look. They say potential buyers shouldn’t consider it show quality, but it passes muster as a high-end driver. The depth of color and shine appear better than Chevrolet achieved on the line, which isn’t surprising since time is of the essence when building new cars. The Camaro features a new windscreen and new seals throughout. The seller added 17″ IROC wheels during the restoration, but the originals are included. The plastic is in good condition, meaning that this classic is off to a flying start.

If this Camaro’s exterior makes a positive impression, its interior serves us more of the same. The seller indicates that most of the plastic is original, but they replaced the seatcovers, headliner, pillar covers, carpet, steering wheel, shifter ball, and the dash pad. The results justified the effort and expense, because it is almost beyond criticism. A couple of plastic components exhibit slight wear, but that’s as bad as it gets. The 1990 model year was the first in which Chevrolet installed an airbag, and this IROC-Z also features ice-cold air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, a six-way power driver’s seat, a power hatch release, a rear defroster, a tilt wheel, and an upgraded CD stereo.

American manufacturers had rediscovered their performance mojo by the time this Camaro left the line. Its engine bay houses the 5.0-liter Tuned-Port Injection V8, producing a factory-rated 230hp and 300 ft/lbs of torque. The first owner paired the TPI motor with a five-speed manual transmission, with power steering and power brakes as standard equipment. Chevrolet never quoted an official ¼-mile ET or top speed, but this IROC-Z will undoubtedly be a spirited performer. The seller doesn’t mention evidence verifying their claim that the odometer reading of 63,000 miles is genuine, but they indicate that the figure will rise since they regularly slip behind the wheel to savor the driving experience. It received a long list of recent work, and potential buyers can consider it a turnkey proposition.

This 1990 Camaro IROC-Z isn’t a show car, but it is a high-end driver with no apparent needs. It will undoubtedly turn heads wherever it goes, and I believe it would draw admiring looks and comments at any Cars & Coffee. The seller’s price is at the top end of the market for a driver-grade classic, but I feel the car’s overall condition and mechanical specifications justify it. The Camaro has been on the market for only a few days, and if you’ve dreamed of owning a 1990 IROC-Z, are you tempted to act fast before someone beats you to the punch? I will understand if you do.

  1. That retina popping interior is sharp, but not for everyone. I would enjoy the 5 speed.
My older brother had a friend that bought a new ’90 RS with the non-high output V8 – I remember the newly introduced gauge layout with yellow lettering – even on the radio.
Now for a (totally!) late eighties/early nineties story: He opened the Crutchfield Catalog, called the toll-free hotline and ordered an Alpine head unit, amp and speakers. The Tech Advisor claimed, “So much bass, you won’t be able to use your inside rear view mirror!:

  2. Beautiful looking cars. We went for the LX Ford, but these sure were a slick machine.

Some cars just make me go woah. This is one of them.

  4. Rickey

That handbrake needs to be adjusted.

Now that is a RED interior! Nice one here with a manual which could only be had with the 5.0 liter and not with a 5.7. These were popular back in my late 1980’s high school years. You had a Camaro, Firebird, or Mustang and dreamed about having a Buick Grand National back then!
