When I saw this 1979 Chevrolet Camaro, the song “Baby Blue” by the band Badfinger immediately came to mind. It’s a great tune from the band’s 1971 album Straight Up, and it got a second wave of popularity when it appeared in the series finale of one of my favorite shows, Breaking Bad. An attractive Blue inside and out, this 1979 stock Chevrolet Camaro looks like a good, affordable entry into the classic car market. If you are looking for a late 1970s Camaro, this example located in Leon, Iowa, is available here on craigslist for sale at $9,500. Special thanks to Jack M. for the tip!
While most Camaro fans will gravitate to the Model’s high-performance Z28, seeing a stock, non-flashy Camaro also makes me intrigued to check out the more common example that was driven in 1979. The seller states that there’s no rust on the body, one tiny dent near one of the taillights, and the taillight beside it has a tiny chip. The factory Bright Blue Metallic paint has faded over the years and has numerous small spots in/on the paint, which might or might not buff out. This is your typical 10-footer. There are aftermarket wheels on the Camaro, but the seller includes the original tires, wheels, and wheel covers.
The interior looks to be in good, usable condition, and the seller notes the AM/FM radio with cassette player, heater, and air conditioning all work. While the upholstery, dash, and carpeting are said to be in good condition, some areas requiring attention include a new headliner replacement, some plastic panels, a tiny hole in the driver’s seat, and the driver’s side armrest looks to be the wrong color.
There are no engine photos in the ad, so I reached out to the owner and confirmed what I suspected of a 1979 base Camaro; a 305 cu in 2bbl lies under the hood. This original 72,000-mile V8 produces 130 hp and is paired with an automatic transmission. The seller says the Camaro is always garaged, that he replaced the valve cover gaskets, and that there is a small oil drip that needs investigation.
When it seems like every classic car for sale will practically empty your bank account, it is refreshing to see an affordable option that the new owner could improve upon while still driving it to cars and coffee meetups and cruise nights. What do you readers think?

Awesome. Perfect cruiser, also, the engine needs nothing for that…nothing at all.
