Update 2/7/23: This is another one of those cars that goes up for sale and then disappears only to resurface again a year or two later. Such is the case with this 1990 Ford LTD Crown Victoria with the LX package, offered here on craigslist from Houston, Texas. This time the asking price has increased by $495 to $24,995. Same seller? We don’t know, but the photos are the same and the car still has just 10,000 one-owner miles but 14 months have gone by since we saw it last. Thanks, Pat L., for noticing this Crown Vic.
In the 1980s and early 1990s, the LTD Crown Victoria was at the top of Ford’s pecking order. They were some of the last rear-wheel-drive vehicles that Ford sold that wasn’t a truck or SUV. Because of their size and power, these cars would be popular for police use, especially state patrols. Ford used the Panther platform to build these machines, along with the Grand Marquis over at Mercury. These were durable automobiles that were known to rack up hundreds of thousands of miles. Yet, the seller’s car has somehow managed to be driven only about 300 miles per year.
Our Jeff Lavery covered this time machine in December 2021 and here’s his review from then. It appears that little has changed with the Ford since then, including its odometer. The seller’s listing even mentions some of the things Jeff said about the car back then, so they’re paying attention to Barn Finds! Such as “No doubting that the Crown Victoria is in outstanding condition” “I don’t recall seeing too many models like this with a mocha brown leather interior” and “one of the best LTD Crown Victoria’s on the market today, and for the foreseeable future”. We can only assume this beautiful car didn’t sell back then because $24-25k is a lot of money for something that doesn’t seem to have reached collector status – at least as of yet. So perhaps this Crown Vic hung around the seller’s garage for another year and he/she has decided to give it another shot. Assuming that the 10,000 miles are legit, this Ford is likely one of the nicest ones of its ilk that you’re likely to find. A video is even offered this time around.
Let’s see…..it didn’t sell for $20,000,so I’ll raise the price

The Chief in our Fire Department had one of these,in this
body style.It was Chrome Yellow (the department color).One
day there was “FIRE” lettering on the front of the light bar.We
later learned the reason why – an older woman hailed him down,
thinking it was a Taxi.
…which gave rise to “all Hail the Chief”..
25k ? Cmon man. The drivers seat from the one pic I see is worn and the drivers side part of the cushion is squashed and dried out from getting in and out of the vehicle continuously or from a heavy driver with only 10 k miles on it. These were great cars but is this one 25 k great ? Nahhhh.imo.
any mechanical odometer like the one in this car can be turned back easily. They have only five numerical characters plus the “tenths” digit. Therefore, this thing either has 110k miles or it’s been fiddled with.
Nice but not $20+ nice. I had a 1988 like this back in the mid-90’s. Was going down the interstate one day while trying to adjust the seat and was suddenly looking up at the roof. Not the best way to drive 70mph. But it was a smooth cruiser.
10 grand tops
In 1997 I was in need of a car so after working all night I went to the Nebraska state surplus sale, not something I would ever recommend doing. I was looking thru the cars that were going to be auctioned I found 3 white 1990 Crown Vics sitting side by side I looked them over and decided on the one that I would bid on, started up nicely and shifted from first and reverse fine but I saw the air cleaner on it and something seemed odd about it in my groggy condition. Anyway I ended up getting that one for 1700, the drive home was kinda scary as it only had one brake on the rear working, front rotors were shot. Got it home and went to bed. Looking it over better the next day I discovered why the air cleaner looked odd the day before, it was carberated, Ford did not have an EFI that would clear the hood for the 351 windsor so they put carbs on them. A couple of used rotors later it was a driver, I loved that car, It would push snow until it came up over the hood, back up and move over and go again.
Cop buddy told me these were his favorites. Tough.
I had an ‘89, ex- Ohio State Highway Patrol car. One of my all time favorites. Huge trunk. Nice ride.
Beautiful condition but asking $25K for Grandpa’s low mileage land yacht is just out right lunacy. It’s a $15K car on a very very good day.
I drove a few of these as squad cars in the 80’s. Drove & rode nice and were fast. One guy I worked with liked them so much he bought the wagon version for his family car. This one looks good, but I do not believe the 10K miles. 25k? Absolutely not.
You can’t fault a dreamer….lol, there’s boat load of cool cars in the $25k range way more desirable than this!
I question that drivers seat having only 10k miles
Mileage claims are pretty easy to debunk when the seller provides the VIN in the ad. Just purchase a Car Report, show it to the owner, and then make a realistic offer.
They just LOVE it when you call their bluff.
I still own my 1988 LTD LX.
I bought the car 10 years ago for 1400 samolies with 9,400 miles. The original owner and like the old saying, I bought it from a little old lady who drove it to church on Sundays. Had the original tires on it still. I drove it up the highway at 70 and the tires turned into shredded radials, barely made it to the tire store.
Gray on gray and the 302 FI is a pooch at 145 hp but it gets 22mpg and is a comfortable cruiser. I will keep this car till I am no longer able to drive and it will be given to my daughter who likes it also. First generation FI and minimal government intervention and the car still has everything original.
The 90 shown is a nice car and I would give 10K but only after I see it in person. I would buy tomorrow.
These are great old highway cruisers. I look for them once in awhile and you can still find a few in good shape with way less than 100k miles for a fair price. This looks like a nice car, but not for his ridiculous asking price.
