BF Auction: 1974 AMC Javelin 360

Saying that the seller of this AMC Javelin has done a ton of work to it already would be a bit of an understatement. The body and paint are done, the engine is rebuilt, and a mountain of parts has been purchased. Unfortunately, they aren’t able to finish this project, so they have decided to list it as a Barn Finds Auction. It’s located in Vancouver, Washington, and includes all the parts they have acquired.

As you can see, the engine isn’t in the engine bay, but it appears to be painted and prepped for the engine to go back in. The seller has already installed a vast amount of new parts, ranging from a new battery to a complete wiring harness. There are still a lot of parts that will need to be installed before it will be a driver, but it’s well underway.

The 360 cui V8 has been rebuilt and tested. A video of it running is included below. It appears to have been built to a high standard, but there’s no word on whether any upgrades were done while it was apart. The 360 V8 was rated at 220 horsepower, not scorching but still plenty to be fun. If it’s been upgraded, it could potentially be even more fun!

The interior was entirely removed prior to being painted. All the included parts have been labeled and boxed up, so hopefully, everything is here to put it back together. The only item the seller knows needs replacing that isn’t included is the seat upholstery. They have provided a list of parts, which you can view here, and it’s a relatively extensive list of new and used parts.

Of the Pony cars, the Javelin is often overlooked and underappreciated. They offered solid performance, unique looks, and stand out in a sea of Mustangs and Camaros. This one has already had all the expensive and challenging work done. Putting it all together won’t be simple, but it’s better than doing body and paintwork! Speaking of the paint, it looks beautiful and likely cost more than what they have set the reserve at. So, if you’ve been on the hunt for a unique project, this AMC might just be the find for you. Be sure to take a closer look and leave any questions you have in the comments below.

    Engine Upgrades – oh yes.

Pretty clear from the video that this mill has a camshaft upgrade, new Holley 600cfm 4v + aluminum intake and headers front and center .

    Sounds great.

    A couple of questions:
Transmission isn’t mentioned, but automatic transmission parts are on the list. Is there an actual transmission?
    A/C car?
AMX hood & spoiler, is this a true AMX?
Some parts listed are stated as for sale…
Someone did a lot of heavy lifting, will be a really nice ride once completed.

Looks like a bell housing bolted to the back of the motor…

That was one of AMCs best designs ! It resembles the last full sized Mustangs of 1972 . The overall design of this 1974 Javelin is by far better than those unstylish Pacers ! Out of all of AMCs cars , the Javelin would be my top pick . Happy Motoring !

The best of luck with the sale.
        Unfortunately I’m just too far
away to make this a reality.

Reminds me of my neighbor across the street with a 90’s S10 Blazer, totally painted, engine on stand, interior sitting all over the garage, but four years on it hasn’t changed. I’ve offered to help. One day I might just offer him a few grand, haul it across the street, and do it myself.

Cool car. Not as valuable as the first Gens, but great lines. Wish it wasn’t a slushbox. No performance cars should be …. Smh. Someone will get a very nice project. God bless.

Totally sharp ride. Love it. Did AMC use a Borg-Warner autobox, or the Torq-flite? GLWTS 🤝

        a 1974 javelin would have a TF 727 with the 360 or 401, iirc.

So sorry about your dad. That is a hurt that will never fully heal. Did your Dad have any car buddies that could help you finish it? I realize your mum wants it gone but it was obviously your dad’s pride and joy. Finish the car and drive your dad’s dream if you want to sell it afterwards that is your decision. At least then you will get its value . I’m still driving my dad’s old Subaru. Sometimes it feels like he is in it with me. Cheers

Thank you for the detailed list of parts. Some of the items on the list are labeled “for sale”. Are those parts included in this auction or are you intending to sell separately?

Got it…Thanks. Sounds a lot like my build process. Takes me a year to get rid of the extra parts once the vehicle is done.

Unique hard to find in this condition with all refurbished & upgraded components.
Good luck to the winning bidder.
Btw side note IF you can find it – AMC Javelin’s were assembled in Germany – Euro Dash Cluster is considered Cherry on top of a rebuilt Javelin.
Higher Odometer Top speed & RPM tach Gauge – engines had hotter cams & higher spring rate valve springs good for 1000rpm over u.s. mills
