With the Dodge Charger remaining such a hot commodity in the marketplace, it’s not every day one comes along that some enthusiasts might consider a bargain. In fact, it’s one of those Mopars that’s often priced out of the reach of many would be buyers, whether it’s a driver or in need of restoration. This 1971 Dodge Charger here on eBay is described by the seller as the best deal on the planet for a ’71, and at $4,900, he believes it’s priced to sell fast. Offers are also being considered, so if you’ve been searching for a third-generation project, head over to Magnolia, Texas, to check this one out in person.
Although some fans prefer the earlier models, others enjoy the curvier fuselage style, which debuted in 1971. Although the exterior will require some work, rust doesn’t appear to be an overwhelming issue outside, at least not to the point that it can’t be repaired without replacing panels. The hood is said to have been swapped for one from a Super Bee, which rode on the Charger platform for its last classic year in ’71. The trunk lid is in primer, but it also appears to have come from a different B-Body, as yellow paint is visible on the underside.
The owner reports that this was originally a 318 car, but a 360 is now under the hood, sourced from a 1978 Dodge Li’l Red Express Truck. These pickups were known as some of the fastest vehicles on the road at the time, featuring a modified version of the police 360, with their 225 horsepower sounding like a respectable number for the period. It’s been bored .030 and rebuilt, and once the external components are in place, hopefully this small block will be ready to perform beautifully. The only information supplied about the transmission is that it’s an automatic.
It’s inside where things seem to take a downhill slide, as the dash is looking rough and it appears that every A/C vent has been removed. Those buckets are a mess, and the floors will need repair or replacement, along with the trunk pan. Fortunately, the frame rails are said to be in good condition, though there aren’t any photos from down below. With the rebuilt high-performance 360 already in the bay, I’m feeling this 1971 Dodge Charger might be a fair deal for under five grand, and maybe even a bargain. What do you think?

Those are ’72 grille panels & taillights. I had one too back in the day. It’s definitely a ’71; you can tell by the side marker light openings. Looking at the rest of the pics, it’s safe to say that this one is the automotive equivalent of a patchwork quilt! That is a reasonable price, though. The fresh 360 is well worth it. No need to worry about matching numbers anymore, so one could make it into whatever they want it to be. It’s already got a Super Bee hood, so that’s one option right outta the gate. GLWTS.

If the engine is really from a 78 Lil red Express he ruined it by modifying it.Could have just built up a regular 360 .
I actually think it’s priced pretty close. Maybe 3900 takes it home. But North of 4000 isn’t unreasonable because what needs replaced isn’t a bank breaking amount. Clearly, the entire interior and floors and a few other things need replaced. But if you can get it “solid” for around 7500, to 10k, then a really sharp paint job, she’ll be a fantastic driver and head turner.

Looks like a lot of parts went off this, and on the gray primered one beside it. So with this buy your getting left over parts. And missing parts. Parts , parts, parts etc.
