The Plymouth GTX was a premium muscle car produced from 1967 to 1971. It was for those buyers who wanted more than the budget-minded Road Runner could offer. The car also sold in far fewer numbers than its austere companion. This 1970 GTX belongs to a Mopar collector and has been restored, though the seller’s information there is limited. Located in Bend (Oregon, we think), this potent performance machine is available here on eBay, where the current bid is $26,800 (surprisingly, no reserve).

Though produced as a separate model for just five years, the timing of the car saw it cross three generations (1967, 1968-70, 1971). After 1971, it became a subseries of the Road Runner for a brief time as that car tried to move more upstream. Total builds in 1970 were 7,748 units, making it one of the scarcest muscle cars when new or today. 4,927 of them are said to have come with the standard 440 cubic inch V (4-barrel) and an automatic tranny. The Hemi was the next step up, though a smaller number may have slipped through with the 440 6-Pack.

This beauty is finished in yellow paint (Lemon Twist?) with a black vinyl top and a matching bucket seat interior. The mileage is said to be 22,700, but there’s no attempt to verify that. A private seller is listing the car, but if you want to know about a warranty, you have to “confirm with the dealer”? On the plus side, the vehicle is said to be numbers-matching and comes with its original broadcast sheet.

Though the seller is a collector, the car is not perfect. The air conditioning needs charging (why not do that before listing it for sale?), and there is a ding on the hood that’s in the photos. But we’re told the machine is otherwise in excellent shape and performs well. Too bad the car’s restoration history isn’t known. Without a reserve, someone might get lucky on this buy.

Nice looking car. It was bid to $35,200 on May 16th, when it was put up for auction, that time with a reserve.

Looks like there is not a reserve this time around?
This is a nice looking car in pictures already past 34K so past my budget. Felt me that kind of money it would need to be inspected before making that final payment.
In 1970 Chrysler workers went on strike for about 6 months so that lead to a smaller amount of builds. I may be wrong but I do rem a neighbor of ours back in the day and he worked at a plant I thought that he was on strike during that time frame, but like I said I waz a kid at that time so my memory is not as good as it once was ” Hey that would make a great country song” 😂
Your a little late!
The air conditioning needs charged (Why not do that before listing it for sale?)
Because it leaks
Brian,
Because you don’t really need it in Bend, Oregon.
AND, it most likely is in need of a complete overhaul.
My take.
Too bad we don’t have a peek at the underside.
Like the color, ditch that non functioning black wannabe down pusher. Never understood what that was all about. You would have to be proceeding at a forward momentum that this car is unattainable at achieving.
This one will easily go beyond $60k
Nice ride, but I think I’d prefer that Panther Pick AAR ‘cuda sitting on the lift. ;>)
It’s at 45.1K with 3 days to go.
Beautiful car…but, why put that stinkin spoiler on the deck lid. It does nothing for looks or performance. That’d be the first thing that disappeared if this gal came to live here.
If the Go Wing came with it from the factory, then I would say that it has to stay.
However, the Broadcast Sheet indicates that this car did not come with one (nothing shown under J8).
I’m just not a fan of them. A friend of mine had a 70 GTX, Burnt Orange with the Six Pack…wicked ride! It don’t have the wing and looked much better imo, than this. These cars have a great looking backside.
SOLD for $50200.
37 bids.
