The Plymouth GTX was a premium muscle car produced from 1967 to 1971. It was for those buyers who wanted more than the budget-minded Road Runner could offer. The car also sold in far fewer numbers than its austere companion. This 1970 GTX belongs to a Mopar collector and has been restored, though the seller’s information there is limited. Located in Bend (Oregon, we think), this potent performance machine is available here on eBay, where the current bid is $26,800 (surprisingly, no reserve).

Though produced as a separate model for just five years, the timing of the car saw it cross three generations (1967, 1968-70, 1971). After 1971, it became a subseries of the Road Runner for a brief time as that car tried to move more upstream. Total builds in 1970 were 7,748 units, making it one of the scarcest muscle cars when new or today. 4,927 of them are said to have come with the standard 440 cubic inch V (4-barrel) and an automatic tranny. The Hemi was the next step up, though a smaller number may have slipped through with the 440 6-Pack.

This beauty is finished in yellow paint (Lemon Twist?) with a black vinyl top and a matching bucket seat interior. The mileage is said to be 22,700, but there’s no attempt to verify that. A private seller is listing the car, but if you want to know about a warranty, you have to “confirm with the dealer”? On the plus side, the vehicle is said to be numbers-matching and comes with its original broadcast sheet.

Though the seller is a collector, the car is not perfect. The air conditioning needs charging (why not do that before listing it for sale?), and there is a ding on the hood that’s in the photos. But we’re told the machine is otherwise in excellent shape and performs well. Too bad the car’s restoration history isn’t known. Without a reserve, someone might get lucky on this buy.

Nice looking car. It was bid to $35,200 on May 16th, when it was put up for auction, that time with a reserve.

Looks like there is not a reserve this time around?
