Container Find: 1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible

Garages and barns are probably the two most popular hibernating places for cars, but another less-utilized option is a container, which has been home to this second-year Firebird for the last eight years.  The seller says he’s a lover of F-Bodies and has held onto this one, but finally decided that now is the time to sell.  As a result, the container has recently been opened, and the droptop is now seeing daylight again for the first time in nearly a decade.  Priced at $19,500, this 1968 Pontiac Firebird convertible is located in West Hollywood, California, and can be spotted here on Craigslist.  It’s stated as a project that needs to be gone through, but this one’s overall complete and seems to be at a good starting point.  T.J., thanks a lot for the great tip here!

We had a neighbor growing up who had a Firebird this color, which I believe is called Meridian Turquoise.  As a youngster, I always thought this was a fun and attention-getting shade, and I still find the finish attractive on this body style.  The seller mentions that he resprayed the outside years ago and states that the panels are solid, although there’s no word on what sort of metal repairs were made before, if any.  With a thorough cleaning, even after all this time, the exterior would likely clean up well enough to be considered a nice driver.

It appears that the interior may have been a work-in-progress at the period this one went into storage, but it’s positive that the owner still has all of the removed parts, plus the floors are stated to remain solid.  A new canvas will need to be put on the top, but the material is included, so hopefully, the rails are still in decent enough shape that just a simple installation without much additional effort will be all that’s needed.  We don’t get to view any close-up shots from the inside, but the driver’s seat will need some fresh upholstery, and it’s hard to tell the condition of the other components.

This one’s said to have come from the factory with a 350 and four-speed, and the seller tells us that he drove the car into the container all those years ago.  It’s not specified whether the engine is presently running, but hopefully, there’s still some good life left for the next owner before a complete rebuild will be required.  The wheels aren’t matching, and there’s some overspray on the tires, but just adding some cool rims with new skins would vastly improve the appearance here, even if nothing else were done.  Would you be interested in taking over this 1968 Pontiac Firebird convertible?

I would have to make payments but I’m still interested, cause I’ve got a 400 that would fit nicely in it! Just don’t have the money at the moment!
