Crazy Big Block Project: 1969 Chevy Corvette

This 1969 Chevrolet Corvette is parked at junkyard facility in Maryland, but still looks good enough to return to the road – especially with a big block and some other period modifications still attached. You almost don’t notice at first that it’s a convertible with the factory hardtop, and even better is the fact that the engine is paired to a four-speed manual. Let’s get this ‘Vette out of this recycling facility by checking it out here on eBay with bids approaching $9K and no reserve.

Check out the side exhaust, the aftermarket wheels, the rear spoiler – somebody threw some money at this Corvette at one point, although it’s impossible to say whether the rear spoiler is a high-quality unit. Sometimes, the side pipes are just props, so I’d want to verify whether those were functional. Regardless, this Corvette looks good sporting some period modifications that complement the big block drivetrain rather nicely.

Here’s a poor shot of the interior but one that makes me really curious about the history of the Corvette: the amount of woodgrain trim inside. This is a look normally reserved for European cars, and while I realize it’s just aftermarket junk, it still gives this ‘Vette a completely different vibe. It looks like trash now, but I’d love to back in time and see this car when it was in its prime.

This engine may be a desirable big block, but it’s pretty obvious it hasn’t seen any love in a long time. The seller notes a few different upgrades, including Edelbrock cylinder head and aluminum radiator. There’s no mention as to whether the engine is still free, or if there’s a particular reason why it was parked in the first place. Whatever the case may be, this car looks no worse than the many junkyard finds I’ve rescued, so don’t let its surroundings scare you away.

    From what I’ve learned from this site concerning Corvettes, I would be highly suspect of the birdcage condition. It also appears that the interior may have suffered moisture intrusion, based on all of the surface corrosion. That HORRID real spoiler would have to go! :-)

    for petes sake blow the leaves out from under the hood. Pro inspection of the frame mandatory, that said, could be a great, affordable (hopefully) project for someone who always wanted a “vette. Take it to whatever level you want, but Please Please $hitcan that awful, crooked spoiler. I hope this falls into some deserving hands. Good luck.

    Cheesed up and rusty! Big project to return the anywhere near correct. I’d bet a handful of dollars the original builder had a mullet and may have been one of Fleetwood Macs biggest fan.

    I’m always amazed by what some people will send to the salvage yard. In my teens an uncle of a friend had a yard and we pretty much had run of the place. Whether whole cars, primo drive trains or complete interiors, it was available. I admit I had one car that due to the value it was sold off as a parts car with a bad tranny because the cost of a replacement tranny exceeded what the car was worth and the body and the rest of the car were in great shape, just not worth the cost of another transmission.
    This one looks to have potential but watch the birdcage and frame for rust. Pretty much everything else can be replaced, especially if gotten for a decent price.

        This was back in the day when the car was only worth $200-$300 for a working car and the transmission was a whole lot more than that, and it wasn’t one you typically found in a salvage yard. Already had it rebuilt before and died again so wasn’t worth the $$$ to do it again.

    This listing has me scratching my head. The car is being sold by an account that lists primarily truck parts. The listing mentions a car dealership, yet it’s photographed at a junkyard.

    Driven hard and put away wet!! Doesn’t seem to be an area of the car that doesn’t look like it was whipped like a horse!!! I like it though it could be fun just to get running and mash the pedal a couple times till something breaks!!!
