The A100 was a “forward control” small van and pickup produced by Chrysler Corp. from 1964 to 1970. In the U.S., it was marketed by Dodge in the U.S., while in Canada it was known as a Fargo. This nice example is the commercial version (no side windows) and was used as such at one point (a sofa is in the back now). Forward control means the driver and passenger sit over the front axle with the engine lodged in between. The A100 competed with Ford (Econoline), Chevrolet (Corvair Greenbrier), and Volkswagen (Type 2). They utilized unibody construction over a 90-inch wheelbase (108 was also offered starting in 1967). Power was from a Slant-Six engine, either 170 or 225 cubic inches in 1966 (the seller’s van has the latter from a 1970s Plymouth Volare).
This ’66 A100 has been a daily driver of late, but as Winter approaches in Canada, the seller needs something more modern to drive. So, the sale of the Dodge is somewhat reluctant, as it’s been performing well and looks good overall. Besides the reliable Slant-Six, the van also has a 3-speed manual transmission.
The van sports a new 2-barrel carburetor that needs some dialing in as it runs better in cooler air. Rust is at a minimum; the white paint looks great and has commercial lettering on it, and the interior is nice, though the front seats should be reupholstered.
