Disassembled Project: 1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

No, what you are seeing here is not one of those rare three-wheeled “Cudas!  But if your first impression was the same as mine, you probably thought that this one had already been used as a parts car at some point to salvage another Barracuda.  Thankfully, that is not the case here, as it’s actually a disassembled project car with nearly all of the components present.  If you’ve been looking for a E-Body project and the thought of putting Humpty Dumpty back together again interests you, then this 1971 Plymouth “Cuda would definitely be worth taking a look at.  Located in Lincoln, Nebraska, it can be seen here on eBay with a current bid of $26,800 and a little less than a day and a half remaining on the auction at the time of this writing.  The reserve price has yet to be reached.

There are several photos of the parts that are included in the listing, plus a lot more photos of this “Cuda in its present state can be seen here on Facebook.  I hope that dolly is also included because you’re sure going to need it to load up all of those parts.  The story goes that this is a 340 4-Speed car that has been off the road for at least 20 years and that it was taken apart for restoration several years ago.  But that restoration was never completed, and the car was then placed into a dry storage area.

A build sheet is included, and the seller says that his “Cuda was originally a Curious Yellow car with a black billboard, black vinyl top, and black interior.  The car is said to have been painted red in the early 1980s, but the body is mostly bare metal now so there are no surprises hidden under paint.  A NOS grille and NOS fenders were purchased sometime in the past, and they are said to be in excellent condition.  The car also comes with a nice condition original dash pad, new seat covers, and new front door panels.

The front floors have been replaced, but the rear floor has some areas of rust.  The frame rails are said to be in very good shape.  The rear quarter panel on the passenger’s side has been replaced, but the driver’s side rear quarter will need a patch behind the wheel.  The trunk is said to have some pinholes but overall it looks like it is in pretty decent shape.  The taillight panel has rust but a new one is included.

The 340 is said to be the original engine and it runs well, although it has been used in another car up until recently.  No word on the transmission.  What are your thoughts on this 1971 Plymouth “Cuda?

Finished, these are slick cars. As good as this one is the owner has saved the buyer from a lot of work. The buying price might sting a bit but the end result is probably going to be worth it.

Just the thought of a “three wheeled Cuda” is enough to disrupt my breakfast.
Let us hope no one ever does that.

Kind of scary how the VIN is attached to something which can be removed and put back in. Mopar of course didn’t think these would be as valuable as the Hope Diamond someday.

Lazy with a capital L. Seller can’t be bothered putting it back together. Almost 30 large for a mess of a jigsaw puzzle. And yes, a part that can be removed with a supposed tamper proof item like a VIN. Stupid. But when I was buying these cars 45 years ago, nobody was faking anything. They were just used cars. Good luck to the new owner.

This would be an E-body not a B-body.

Whoops- good eye Falconeddie, I appreciate you noticing that B does not equal E! Correction made and thanks for reading.

For those of you who were so offended at the inclusion of the near-perfect Curious Yellow ’70 Hemi ‘cuda last week within the confines of the pages of BF, here you go!

At the same time, I am the one who contributed same Hemi ‘cuda so blame me, not the people at BF. I like to contribute all sorts of vehicles for BF’s consideration as a way of breaking up the constant monotony of rusty and dirty cars/trucks. I know I’ll never own a car like that ‘cuda convertible but I sure do love to dream about them.

Variety makes the world go ’round. And I sure am glad there are some cars of that caliber to feast my eyes on, no matter who sends them in to BF.

    So, there you go!

Thats the e-bay thing! something that would attract a lot of bidders, like this cuda, great example.watch when the bidding is over.I learned that a long time ago. This cuda is a great one to finish-just not for me. I have a 71 duster, fresh in violet fc7. new engine new interior, just needs put back together. I cant find the time to finish it.And it was taken down to bare-so it will be a restored car in the end. I can’t stand proper parts to put everything Great cuda to finish.
