Documented Targa Survivor: 1969 Porsche 912

This 1969 Porsche 912 Targa comes with extensive history and a near-fully documented ownership history. We don’t see these cars all that often in colors other than red, white, and black (throw in Irish Green if you think there’s a tie for third place), so the “Sand” exterior really pops despite its conservative appearance. The 912 is numbers-matching and said to run quite well. Find it here on eBay with bids approaching $18K and no reserve.

You can tell when a car’s been loved and owner by true enthusiasts and one way I tend to measure this is when consecutive owners have been equally obsessive with tracking the vehicle’s history. No major gaps develop because the next owner doesn’t want to be the one to break the chain. I love that about this 912, along with the decision to ditch the Fuchs for the far-prettier chrome wheels with center caps.

The 912’s interior is as good as the exterior, which the seller notes has one repaint in its past by a premier California body shop. The 912 is otherwise untouched cosmetically, and the seats and the dash remain in excellent condition. The transmission is said to shift beautifully with no crunching or grinding, and with no radio to distract you, that only soundtrack is the noise of that glorious air-cooled mill behind you.

The listing breaks down the very detailed maintenance folio that accompanies this 912, with much of the work done by premier California European car specialists. The 912 now resides in New Jersey, where the current owner contends he does not drive the Targa as much as he expected. A car this nice does make you fearful of the shopping cart ding, but it’s a shame to hide a stunner like this.

A super sleeper in the Porsche community, and a hard one to find especially this clean! Many were subjected to an engine removal and replaced with something newer/bigger or tossed aside altogether.
Great combination of less weight with good power to pound.
    Good find, Jeff.

Third. Also couldn’t agree more on the wheels. The chrome slotted discs have always looked better than the Fuchs mags in my opinion. This car should sell for a whole lot more than $18K and I’m not even a Porschephile.

Remember not long ago when no one wanted a 912, or a Targa?
Those days are obviously long gone.

Long time 912 fan but prefer coupes. Somehow, though, this combination of color, wheels, and Targa top really works. Beautiful!

Somebody simply talk to the Seller and ash him/her what they want for the car. If the Seller is not on another Planet, buy the car. Do it now. Fixed Window Targas are very hard to find, and 912s brought me endless joy. I would buy it now but I have no room. Cheers.
