Many fans of the Plymouth Barracuda seem to lean toward the later E-Body examples as their favorite of the bunch, but the earlier A-Body cars are fun offerings as well, especially the first-generation cars with that massive piece of wraparound glass in the back. In the mid-sixties, both Ford and Plymouth shared the concept of taking an already existing inexpensive chassis and putting a sportier body on top, with Ford basing the Mustang on the Falcon platform and Plymouth using the Valiant’s frame for the Barracuda. This 1965 model here on Craigslist is already a capable driver, but it also seems ripe for taking to a higher level. Whether you’re ready to get to work or just get behind the wheel, this cool fastback is located in Barrington, Rhode Island, and comes with an asking price of $9,900. Mitchell G., thanks for the tip here!

The backstory goes that much of the work done here was completed in 2012. Sadly, not long after, the owner passed away, with his son driving the car on occasion afterwards. A 273 V8 was the largest engine available for the Barracuda back in ’65, and that’s what’s under the hood here, though it’s not positively stated that this is still the original component. What is confirmed is that it’s been rebuilt by Jasper, with the owner describing its operation as perfect and the car’s condition as mechanically awesome, with a total of about 15,000 miles of use put on by both the present caretaker and the son of the previous owner.

The negatives regarding the metal are where it’s most visible, as the body shows corrosion in the quarters, lower areas of the doors, and also on the fenders. There’s already some body filler as well, so attention will be needed outside if you’re envisioning a stronger appearance. The seller suggests that leaving the exterior alone and retaining its present patina is another option, since the Mopar is said to garner attention as-is wherever it goes. Better news comes from down below, as the platform is claimed to be solid, with no rust on the frame.

Things inside could use a bit of sprucing up, and a new headliner would certainly be funds well-spent. However, it’s nice that this one can already be driven and enjoyed, so working at your own pace could be a favorable possibility here. I love the last-generation E-Body Barracudas as much as anyone, but the early A-Bodies make excellent cruisers as well, plus they’re a lot more affordable. Would you lean towards operating this 1965 Plymouth Barracuda as it is now for a while, or go ahead and begin a restoration immediately?

Decent car, decent price.
Drive it till the wheels fall off and enjoy.
Not keen on stripes but let it go …

Not keen on stripes but let it go unless it really bothers you…😜
Convertible or fastback? Both beautiful cars and you can own both for less than the price of a Myers Manx! What a great way to have a distinctive place at a car show with 2 V8 Mopars.
Assuming the Cuda is driveable, I’d drive it and enjoy it. Looking at the pics, some body panels may need to be replaced.
My dad had one when I was a Teenager. Same engine and transmission. It was a peppy little car and never gave him any trouble. After it was sold, dad wished he had kept it.
I had one of these for several years. One of the best cars I ever owned. I’m tempted to bid.
I’ve had 3 of these. (1’64 and 2’65s) If I bought this car. I would attack thec1/4 panel isse(s) and then find a junk Aspen or Volare and swap out the rear differential and the front brakes. That way you would have disc brakes and a wheel bolt pattern that is easy to find wheels for. (5 on 4″ bolt pattern is tough to find) Wider wheels, better tires, better brakes and some decent shocks make this a very nice driving car.
I like that the owner kept the original pushbutton radio and speaker (re-coned).
