Dukes Of Hazzard Style: 1976 Plymouth Fury Police Tribute

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Throughout the years, there have been lots of 1969 Dodge Chargers dressed up to look like the famous General Lee, an iconic Mopar from the popular The Dukes Of Hazzard TV show.  That’s understandable, as the second-generation Charger looks fast even when it’s sitting still, plus who doesn’t want to fantasize that they’re driving like Bo Duke every now and then?  However, I haven’t seen very many tributes to the sedan doing most of the chasing during each episode, which was often a mid to late-seventies Dodge Monaco or Plymouth Fury.  For those who root for the blue side in the fictional Hazzard County, this 1976 Plymouth Fury here on Craigslist might be worth considering, and I’m sure it would make Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane awfully proud as well.  This cool Mopar is in Lancaster, California, with the seller aiming for $30,000.  However, he also mentions OBO, aka or best offer, and invites serious buyers to give him a call if they’re ready to talk business.

Tony Primo, thanks for your great tip here!  The Fury is described as super clean and in excellent condition, with the seller going so far as to say that the car looks like new.  The photos seem to help back up these claims, as this one appears to be in very nice shape for an auto that’s nearing the five-decade mark in age.  We don’t get any history here, or any pictures of what the car looked like before the police decals and light bar on top were added.  However, the fit and finish seem very good, so if any bodywork was performed, it appears to have been done to a high-quality standard.

The interior is said to be newly redone, with fresh-looking seat upholstery, new carpeting, a new headliner, and even a new steering wheel.  Some staining on the driver’s shoulder belt might be the biggest eyesore inside, but that should be an easy fix should the future owner decide to address this.  Everything is stated as in working order, including the siren, intercom, gauges, and police lights, which have new LED bulbs installed.  The sheriff shirt in the back seat and the round hat on the package tray are also fun touches.

Other than it being a V8, no specifics are provided regarding the engine, such as whether it’s original to the car or if there’s ever been an overhaul.  However, the seller says it runs so well that the Fury can be driven cross country, or be idled for hours in a parade, thanks to a rebuilt radiator and healthy cooling system.  This one seems like a job well done, and I’m guessing it turns plenty of heads.  What I’m not so sure of is whether this 1976 Plymouth Fury will fetch the $30k the seller is hoping for, but to the right buyer, maybe that’s at least in the ballpark.  How much would you be willing to spend here?

I’ll stick with my 1986 White Ford Escort hatchback 4 speed with no radio.

I still want to know what color interior – red, blue, tan and gray were all on offer in all-vinyl or striped cloth.

Visions of grandeur for a 1977, not 1976. Lots of lipstick on this four-door sedan with a 318 rebuild without required smog equipment starting in 1977. Qualified comments from a previous owner of a new Fury sedan that I dearly miss after thirteen years of ownership.

We see a good number of “Tribute” cars on Barnfinds, but I have to admit, I think this is one of the nicest ones I’ve seen. The car looks like its in terrific shape, both inside and out. Under the hood is clean too. I’d have to go and look at some actual images, but from what my memory tells me, this Plymouth looks pretty close. I can sure picture ol’ Roscoe P. Coltrane pulling up in this now…… Its hard to believe James Best is gone almost 10 years now. Nice find.

This car might be a 1976 – but the headlights are from 1977. The taillights are the giveaway. The taillights and the headlights were changed from all red taillights (like you see here) to red and orange for both the Dodge Monaco and Plymouth Fury, for 1977 model year. The headlights in 1976 were still round circles – the square headlights seen on this car weren’t available until 1977.

The guy should have made it a tribute to the CHP patrol cars of that era.

The 440 4bbl 727 trans and a sure grip 3.23 rear end was available in the police pkg thru 1978, since Roscos car would smoke the wheels I’ll bet it wasn’t a 318 2bbl combo. Watch Smokey and the Bandit, do you think those cop cars had 318s lol. IMO, this car isn’t worth $10k

Not an authentic police package car and not worth 30K. In the police car hobby world, this one would be deemed a “Clown Car”.
