There isn’t much that looks designer’y about this car from looking at most of the photos. It almost couldn’t be crammed more tightly into this storage space and the photos aren’t.. uhh.. er.. well, I said that I wouldn’t harp on bad photos as much this year so I’m trying to be kind. You can see for yourself in regard to the photos but the car is really interesting and unusual. It’s a 1973 AMC AMX Pierre Cardin edition and it can be found here on eBay in Grayslake, Illinois. The seller has a $6,900 buy it now price listed or you can make an offer.
Man, I’m tellin’ ya. I get it, sometimes a person has a car for a long time. In the meantime, life happens and storage spaces get used for everything, but wow. At least it’s inside hopefully out of the elements and out of view of shifty characters and rodents and all of that stuff. Our own Todd Fitch, himself somewhat of a designer edition writer, showed us a somewhat nicer one about a year and a half ago here on Barn Finds. A reader ended up buying that car, it would be great if someone out there could rescue this rare Pierre Cardin AMX.
Here is one of two interior photos, this one showing the headliner and top of the driver’s seat. The only other one shows the driver’s door panel and that’s it. I’m assuming that the seats aren’t in good condition or they would be shown – I could be mistaken and all is well. AMC was in cahoots with a few famous designers and together they created some legendarily-cool and possibly universally-made-fun-of special editions such as the Gucci Hornet, the Oleg Cassini Matador, and the Pierre Cardin Javelin made for 1972 and 1973. Pierre Cardin gave us some interesting fashions, no?
This is AMC’s 360 cubic-inch V8 with around 220 hp. The seller says that it’s missing the carb, I think? Check out the ad and let us know if that’s how you read this, “Missing gauge cluster, carb. needs floor boards, engine compartment and trunk i desent [sic] condition. bottoms of rear quarters.” I’m not quite sure which things are missing and/or which ones are good, but one quick call will tell it all. Can this car be saved from what you can tell of its condition? I sure hope so.
They are nice cars done and I thought this was over priced until I saw the air cleaner.
Fashionable? Not!
The seller appears to be illiterate and lazy. I say “appears” as I’m trying to understand his or her point of view. Perhaps they aren’t capable of forming a comprehensible sentence or they physically unable to clean the garbage off the car. Pierre Cardin or no Pierre Cardin. Never understood why they named a Javelin edition after a Puerto Rican baseball player anyway.
I’ll take the car if he or she pays me 1500 bucks to drag it out.
You must be thinking of Will Cardin who played for the 1908 Monmouth Browns in the Illinois-Missouri league.
I figure they are texting with fat fingers on their phone – “1973 AMC AMX JAVELIN Pierre Cardin interior comlete. 360 4 barrel motor, automatitransmission, functional cowl air cleaner/Hood. rear spoiler both front grills. white with white top.
Missing gauge cluster, carb. needs floor boards, engine compartment and trunk i desent condition. bottoms of rear quarters.”
automatitransmission?
I think one too many zeros in the price.
These are stunning when done.I had 2,kept the best one.Sold a very nice driver with no needs for about 12 grand Canadian ($9k U.S.).Both are purple which is the color to have to match the wild interior,And both are AMX’s which meant little on the second gen cars, but still….
This one ? Not even if there is $10,000 in cash in the glove box !
It’s a shame that the owner let this AMX get that bad!
Parts car over priced .
There is a Pierre cardin javelin about 5 miles from my shop. Not a very common car at all.
At least AMC was pushing fashion along with their cars like the Levis cars which I liked to get a nice one.
Another Illinois rust bucket. Rusty cars are one of the main reasons I moved to Northern Nevada.
Cool car, too bad it is nothing but some descent parts for a non-rusty project.
Haul to the junkyard, clean out the garage!
