The 1970 Plymouth Barracuda was a popular pony car with its all-new platform. Nearly 49,000 copies were produced, yet fewer than 1,800 of them were the performance ‘Cuda model with a 340 cubic inch V8 and a TorqueFlite automatic transmission. This apparent survivor is unusual in that it was ordered by a police officer who added cop hardware used in the day in Ogden, Utah. It seems like an original car with worn blue paint and just under 100,000 miles on the clock. Located now in San Diego, California, this cool Mopar is available here on eBay where the current bid is $33,534 but the reserve is north of there.
This ‘Cuda is so well-equipped that the factory had to add a second fender tag to accommodate all the goodies. The seller provides few details on what he/she suggests is a very special car. It was the subject of a Mopar Magazine in 2023, but only a pic of part of the article is there to try to decipher. As such, we don’t know if this vehicle was sanctioned by the local fuzz or ordered by an especially dedicated officer. The car even has a siren, said to be situated under the hood.
For those who rely on documentation, the Plymouth comes with its build sheet and purchase invoice. Supposedly it’s never been restored, which should make the aging paint original. Another source indicates it was up for sale earlier for $58,000 though we don’t know if it ever changed hands. The current listing says the auto has had just two prior owners.
The photos provided show a car that may be rust-free, and the interior is tidy, even with all the police gizmos. Since this was probably a police officer’s personal car, no additional resale value is likely added. You could take it all out and repaint the ‘Cuda or leave it alone and maybe have an attention getter at Cars & Coffee.

That’s not a siren – it’s probably part of the car alarm.
It says siren in the linked article anglia. All those options, but no gear option. Assuming it was 3.23 when it left the factory. May have been the tallest gear available. Cool car thanks Dixon.
It’s a siren, I tested it out. I just bought this car today and brought her home… I’m now the 4th owner of this beautiful car..
It is a Federal siren and above it looks like a 1970’s programmable police scanner. This car seems more like a want-a-be Cop than a real one. The guy who speeds to accident scenes hoping be Johnny on the spot for a fire or a rescue. Anyway, just weird for a nice performance car…
Grandpa says a lot of cops used to have Muscle cars. Said they were all hypocrites because at work they gave people tickets for enjoying themselves and off duty drove the way they wanted to because they knew if they were ever stopped they would get no ticket because they were a cop.
Mitch, Grandpa says the 3.23 ratio was the best compromise for a performance car.
Volunteer fire department?
I like what I see, except for that ‘Cuda script on the sides.
But a one sentence description? Come on, the seller has to do a lot better than that.
