Good Buy or Goodbye? 1969 Saab 95

With over 110,000 Saab 95s being made over two decades, they aren’t unicorn rare but nice ones don’t come up for sale too often. And then again, sometimes nice ones come up for sale more than once. This 1969 Saab 95 is one of those Saabs. It can be found posted here on craigslist in Acworth, Georgia and the seller is asking $8,000. Here is the original listing.

Saab’s version of their 94/96 sedan was the 95 wagon which is redundant since the 95 is a wagon. I haven’t had any Bailey’s in my coffee today, really. The 95 was made for two solid decades from 1959 to 1978 and they never came in a four-door version – although I’ve shown my Photoshop version of a four-door Saab 95 in the past here. Sorry for the repeat.

This car looks fantastic to me and it’s almost as if I’ve seen it before; because I have. It was listed on another site (like the old “on another network”) twice over the last few years, once in 2017 and once again in 2018 which is when the current seller bought it. The original story is that this car was discovered basically abandoned and covered in vines and was then restored for the most part. The only thing that could make this car better for me would be if it had a red interior and a two-stroke engine. I don’t know if I’d be able to resist it if it had a red interior at this crazy low manager-is-out-of-town-blowout-sale asking price. Sadly, the rare and valuable roof rack which was on the car at the last auction doesn’t appear to be included, I’m assuming that was sold to offset the purchase price.

This is the only interior photo but the seller has provided two links to previous sales which show dozens of photos that you can see if you care to. It really looks nice, almost too nice for this asking price which is between Hagerty’s #4 fair and #3 good condition values. It looks “good” to me all day long so the $8,000 or offer asking price almost seems like a steal, $2,500 roof rack or not.

The car was originally black and there was rust on the rockers which was repaired with welding, not Bondo, according to the previous auction description. It looks perfect to me now although with just three exterior photos it’s hard to tell. They say that there is no rust so that’s good. The original 1.5L V4 was seized when the original restorer bought it so a bigger 1.7L V4 Ford Taunus unit with 65 horsepower was exchanged and they say that it’s a strong runner. This price almost scares me more than if it were twice this expensive. It seems too low to me, what are your thoughts on this 95? Good buy or goodbye?

Check out the close cousin (’71) on “that other site” that sold for $40K two days ago.

Well,,,, it IS a Saab wagon, very few and far between BECAUSE,,,the early ones were so offensive and gutless, when the 4 cylinder came out, not many wanted them. I think modern 2 stroke oils have reduced the “cloud”, but back then, people burned the cheapest oil they could find, hence the smoke screen. Their loss, if I may disagree with the author, the 4 cylinder was a marked improvement. Those V4’s, German, I believe, were stout motors. Powered a rift of cars and trucks. $8 grand,,,sigh, I just don’t know anymore, engine parts are no problem, Saab 95 specific parts, could be a hassle, not like there’s any Saab dealers you can go to. It’s a great find, I could never justify $8 grand for one.

I agree that 8k is a good price, and 12k would not be out of the question. The V4 gives it more daily driver options, but I did love my oil burner in the day.
Driving one is like no other ride I know of.

1969 had an efficient cold air lid under the dash which later models lacked as well as a horn on a stalk

Pricing a vehicle is subjective and every classic is uniquely different. No harm done in making the leap to inspect it, which of course should be a must for any vehicle regardless of price, casting aside doubts which would make you hesitate to do so. I have purchased countless classics which appeared underpriced and were usually fine. Sellers have their reasons, perhaps this being the case to undervalue it. I never ask, thank them after purchase and celebrate with a good beverage after.

Beautiful looking car. I had a neighbour when I was a boy who had one. I cannot remember what year his was, but I do know his looked like this. I’d pay around $8,000 for a car like this.

I sent the seller an email yesterday and haven’t heard back yet, I have a feeling this one is possibly a little hinky. That’s an awfully good price for this car. Maybe too good.

I am a little confused by the links to the BAT listing. Did he buy it there and now is listing on CL? It looks like it could be the same car for sure. Bought for 7 ( plus % and shipping across country) and now listing for $8? I would be a lot more excited if it was still here in CA as it looks like someone did a lot of work to get it nice and current owner has just driven it maybe or stored it in a garage since buying?

Rw, this exact car has been featured twice on BaT as shown with the two links in the original listing.

Listing update: someone grabbed this one I think, the seller has deleted the listing.
