Later 350 V8: 1959 Chevrolet Corvette

America’s Sport Car, the Chevrolet Corvette, went into 1959 largely unchanged from 1958. Sales picked up slightly (a 5% gain), but 1958 had been an economic recession year. The car would get close to cracking the 10,000-unit mark, which it would finally accomplish in 1960. The seller has a dusty but nice ’59 that is on its way to becoming a driver (the engine isn’t hooked up). Located in a garage in Edinburg, Virginia, this ‘Vette is available here on eBay for $44,400 OBO.

The C1 Corvettes had gained quad headlights the year before the seller’s car was built. So, the changes to the ‘59s were minor. A 283 cubic inch V8 remained the only engine choice, though offered in several variants. That motor (and perhaps the transmission, too) has been replaced by a later model 350 small block, paired with a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission. The seller does not explain how close the engine is to being done, as it looks to have been rebuilt.

The blue and white paint look good, though not perfect, and the frame is said to be fine sans some surface rust. The blue interior appears to be original, but the upholstery is stretched a bit, thus showing its age and use. It all may clean up just fine if you’re not seeking to have an award-winning, numbers-matching show car.

Before placing a bid, I would ask the seller if the rest of the components for the engine compartment are included, as they don’t appear in the photos. Nor is the car’s mileage discussed. And is it strictly a convertible, or is the optional hardtop included?  If you can do the remaining work yourself, perhaps this Corvette can be back on the road before the end of Summer.
