Pontiac dropped the Tempest nameplate on its mid-size cars into the 1970 model year. Looking to offer a bare-bones model of the LeMans, the T-37 replaced it for the rest of 1970 and all of 1971. Three body styles were offered: a 2-door coupe with or without pillars and a 4-door sedan. The seller has a 1971 T-37 hardtop that appears to be in original survivor condition. Located in West Orange, California, this well-used Poncho is available here on craigslist for $10,500. Heads up to “Zen” for the tip!
The concept of the T-37 was to be the cheapest Pontiac available at the time. That would change just a year later when the Ventura II debuted based on the Chevy Nova compact. The T-37 was a stripper compared to the regular LeMans, so the interior was stark by comparison (a rubber floor covering was standard, with carpeting being extra). Chrome trim on the outside was limited, and dog dish hub caps were the norm rather than full wheel covers. In 1971, Pontiac sold about 45,000 T-37s, with two-thirds being the hardtop like this one.
This budget LeMans is decently equipped with a 350 cubic inch V8, TH-350 automatic transmission, front disc brakes, power steering and brakes, and factory air conditioning. All just like a regular LeMans might have. We’re told it runs great, though the mileage racked up is 120,000. Some new parts have been added, including the starter, shock absorbers, master cylinder for the brakes, and a rebuild of both the carburetor and tranny.
The body and blue paint look decent (with one dent) and it appears to also sport a vinyl top. The finish is original, as is the matching interior, which has seen better days and needs renewing. The car retains its original radio,o which we assume is AM. The sticker from the selling dealer in 1971 is still affixed to the trunk lid. The seller may have just cut the price by $400, as two prices are in the listing. In a world full of GTOs, when was the last time you saw a T-37?
Only in the brochure. A central valley California Pontiac – GMC dealer that I worked for never ordered a single one for flooring. Less affluent buyers were easily switched to a late model used car with a bit more pizzazz. A little surprised to see this one optioned up and with a vinyl top. Another $131 for a LeMans would have been easy to hide in the monthly strokes.
looks solid other than the interior. i would leave it a T37. not many made that i know of. be a solid buy for 7500.00 if you can get for that.

These were kind of what the Judge was supposed to be. Roadrunner fighter in its basic content just not the fire breathing performance. Thankfully the Judge turned out like it did.
A beige top on a blue car, NO! This one is nicely equipped for a T-37,though.

I bought a GT 37 new in 1971 with 400 4 speed. Cardinal Red with a gold stripe on each side. I loved that car & wish I still had it!
