Mix And Match Body: 1974 Chevrolet Corvette

When I think of a Rat Rod, combined parts from different makes in varying colors, conditions, and shapes come to mind, so calling this one the Rat Rod of Corvettes isn’t a fair assessment.  However, somebody has taken the time to gather parts from different C3s and add them, making this 1974 Chevrolet Corvette here on eBay a unique and attention-worthy example.  The seller is billing it as a ’74 model, but the title says 1969, with the VIN on the frame matching the numbers on the pink slip.  This one’s a bit confusing, yet interesting at the same time, so head up to Forest Lake, Minnesota, to check this ‘Vette out in person and see if it’s right for you.  Bidding has reached $2,247.22 at the moment, and with no reserve, perhaps this cool two-seater can be yours for an affordable price.

A convertible option was still available on the C3 until 1975, with this one sporting a true white canvas drop top.  The wheels are post-1974, as is the front end and fenders with the cornering lights. The pop-up headlights have also been replaced with fixed units, and I’m guessing the materials covering them were once clear.  The rear component is also of a later variety, and I’m wondering if any panels remain that are actually original to this car.  Some of the fit is decent here, but the hood placement could use some adjustment, along with a couple of other gap tolerances here and there.

The seller mentions that this car had been sitting in his garage for the last four years, and was started for the first time since this past July, with a video included to document the occasion.  Gas flowed through the carb like a fountain, then ceased, so he believes the float may be the culprit here.  Some smoke also came out of the exhaust, and the oil appears creamy, but a real safety issue is present as gas is dripping onto a muffler.  Better address this first, so this collection of parts doesn’t go up in flames!

Inside, the condition is driver-quality, with the factory steering wheel replaced with a non-Corvette component supplied by Grant.  There’s also a JVC Stereo with a cassette deck, so that was probably swapped out years or maybe decades ago.  Although this C3 isn’t special for any particularly great reason, I can appreciate the uniqueness here, although I’m not sure how much additional time and effort this one deserves beyond getting it back to a reliable driver.  What are your thoughts about this unusual, mixed-and-matched Chevrolet Corvette?

How about that, a genuine FrankenVette! I can see more than a few heads turning when pulling up to the local Cars & Coffee meet-up in this rig. GLWTS.

It says it’s titled as a 1969, but the ignition switch is on the dash. 1968 only dash and steering column? Who knows. Sounds like the car Johnny Cash sung about.

Johnny Cash wrote a song about it, the seller did it. “ I got it one piece at a time and it didn’t cost me a dime, you gonna know when I come this town. “

A clone for sure. 1968 ignition location (one year only), fiberoptics on the center console (gone by 1973), one year only 1968 doors, must have both a front and rear clip. I would worry about the vin number. All this just to start.

The 1980 front and rear clips look great with the convertible top. This one is a major project for sure, roll up your sleeves!

I’m thinking the only thing 1969 is the frame, the body would be 1975 or earlier last year for c3 convertilble was 1975 my concern would be body mount locations even though the frames are similar body mounts may differ.

Parts car is right. This is parts of at least a half dozen or more cars.

Strangest Vette I’m pretty sure I’ve ever seen, I wouldn’t mess with this thing under any circumstances. I’m not sure that it could even be licensed in AZ.
