Nicest One Left? 1975 Mercury Colony Park Wagon

As plentiful as wagons were in the mid-seventies, it’s surprising how few still seem to be around, since many served their duty and were subsequently forgotten, or worse.  With the nostalgia surrounding the tried-and-true station wagon, most remaining examples still attract attention on the roads today, no matter the make or model.  Finding one as elite and low-mileage as this 1975 Mercury Colony Park seems to be happening a lot less frequently than in the past, and while the price tag of $39,999 may be a deterrent to some potential buyers, it’s hard to argue that this may be one of the nicest ready-to-go family haulers still out there.  It’s located in Las Vegas, Nevada, and you can find it here on eBay.

The Grand Marquis was Mercury’s top-of-the-line flagship in ’75, and the brand used it as the base for the Colony Park.  The seller reports that his wagon is the finest the company offered at the time, considering the extensive options it came equipped with.  One excellent feature is the 460 engine, the largest V8 you could get here at the time, delivering 218 horsepower with its standard 4-barrel carburetor.  Unfortunately, the seller forgot to include a photo of the engine bay.  It also has the uncommon Class III trailer towing package, plus an extended fuel tank.  The latter could be very helpful here, since I’m guessing this one’s a lot thirstier than most if it’s pulling a trailer.

Twenty grand was reportedly spent on renovations over the past year, leaving it in what’s described as like-new condition.  Fresh Ginger Glamour paint was applied, followed by a clear coat, and there’s no information on whether it needed any bodywork before that.  However, with less than 30,000 miles on the ticker, the panels may not have needed much attention.  As slick as the finish looks, the real attention-grabber is the stainless woodie trim accents, plus the optional full vinyl roof.

With such a strong exterior presentation and low mileage, I’d expect the inside to look great as well.  Fortunately, the interior condition is exceptional, and it also has some desirable options.  One notable feature is the stowable game table and its magnetic checkerboard, which should help keep the southernmost passengers occupied for hours!  When the wagon isn’t needed for family use, folding the seats down gives about as much cargo space as a pickup, and thankfully, the back is clean enough to suggest this one hasn’t been used that way very often.  Although this is undoubtedly one of the nicest remaining Colony Parks out there, I’m not sure wagon fans will line up to drop nearly $40k.  Is this one worth anywhere close to what the seller is hoping for?

Nice to see one as heavily optioned as this as the rarer stuff was rarely checked off that much back in the day but I’ll have to pass at the asking price,…
A shame really as it would have been rather cool to be cruising around in Uncle Buck’s later family vehicle :).
