No Reserve Collectors Edition: 1982 Chevrolet Corvette

From 9/13/19 – This 1982 Chevrolet Corvette is a desirable Collector’s Edition model, sold as a non-runner with 35,000 miles. The Collector’s Edition cars are a desirable package, featuring fuel injection, a novel opening rear glass canopy, silver-beige paint, and upgraded wheels and tires. All of those components are still attached to this car, which the seller claims ran and drove before being parked for an extended period. You’ll find the Corvette here on eBay with bidding over $5K and no reserve.

I’ve always liked the Collector’s Editions cars, as they seemed to capture all of the best C3 bits available at the time. The C3, to me, was a gorgeous car with lackluster drivetrain options, so this final fling seemed to offer some advantages the earlier cars couldn’t muster. The L83 Cross-Fire engine actually offered some of the best performance of the Malaise era, and even featured a ram air induction system.

The contrasting bucket seats and unique door panels also give the Collector’s Editions car some extra style points, and this example seemingly has a nicely preserved cockpit despite several years of neglect. The steering wheel will need some attention and the carpets clean, but the Collector’s Edition-specific trim pattern is intact – and that’s a very good thing. Sadly, no manual transmission was offered in ’82.

While the Corvette was a far cry from its forebearers, it still put down 285 lb-ft of torque and kept ahead of the Mustang GT of the same era in performance testing. As these cars become harder to find in unrestored and unmodified condition, I suspect the C3 will begin to appreciate slightly – especially for versions like this of which less than 7,000 examples were ever made. Under $10K looks good to me.

Nice looking ’82. Too bad the wear on the steering wheel, seat belts, and driver’s door indicate 135K. Still, it can be cleaned up and someone will have a nice car.

Definitely at least 135K on the clock. This car is wore out! Will never understand why some people (usually used car dealers) brazenly misrepresent the facts. Who was it that said “A fool and his money are soon parted”?

Nice Vette even @ 135K miles, some fool will bid crazy money and buy this treasure. I’d have it for 6 grand. More if it was a runner.

No way that car is 35k miles.

    HaHa 35,000mi.

“Non-Runner” at 35K miles? HA!! Plus it looks as if that was some pretty tough miles on that pup. I’m sorry I can’t buy it and enter it in a Demolition Derby. What a shame.

I didn’t realize a late C3 could look so sharp, I have a greater appreciation for them now. The rust coloured stain on the console carpet, and ran when parked status would steer me away from this one.

I agree with the look. I thought that I was over C3s when I sold my ’70. I figured that my next Vette would be a C4. I drove a C5 and thought it was too pedestrian.

But the more I look at these last round of C3s – 80 – 82 – I’m really drawn to them. Someone down the street has a beautiful red one that is rarely out of his garage. I am hoping to catch him outside some day and get a dialogue going.

Could you get the collector’s/silver anniversary editions with BLACK carpeting, while still retaining silver leather, etc.?

As a former owner of an ’80 Corvette-brand new off the showroom floor! It was a nightmare to have bought it! After 2 weeks the interior trims started to fall off. Then it had cooling issues-A/C has to be turned off in city driving and other nightmares followed. After 6 months of numerous trips to the dealer for repairs, the salesman actually quit because of my complaints. This one shown here looks pretty good. A friendly reminder to any potential buyer of this ‘Vette…any ‘Vette made from 1980 up to 1986 are basically a P.O.S. Good luck on your purchase.
