We’ve seen hundreds of special edition vehicles find their way onto the pages of Barn Finds over the years, including quite a few unusual variants of the Ford Mustang. However, the story behind the one-year-only 7-Up edition is an unusual tale, and it’s got one of those happy endings where lemons get turned into lemonade. These cars used a 1990 Mustang of the LX variety, but they all got droptops and featured a 302 under the hood, so the 7-Up examples are some desirable Fox bodies.
Going back to 1990, Ford and 7-Up collaborated to create a Mustang that wore the colors of the iconic soda can, with the beverage manufacturer having intentions of being one of the sponsors of the NCAA finals that year. The plan was to produce around 30 of these autos to be given away during halftime festivities, but as bad luck would have it, the sporting event never took place. Ford must have liked the design, so instead of shelving this concept, the company moved forward and produced over 4,000 green-bodied and white canvas top Mustangs, which became known as the 7-Up Edition.
The seller says he’s owned this one for about three years, and while it’s not claimed to be in Concours condition, the Mustang still presents very nicely on the outside. No modifications have been made, and the original wheels are also still present, with the tires they’re wearing said to be in good shape as well. Even the white canvas top is still decently preserved, with no tears in the material and the frame rails operating properly.
Unfortunately, an issue the future owner will be facing is an internal knocking noise inside the engine. The owner mentions that a couple of months ago the dash gauge began showing low oil pressure, although there was still the correct amount of fluid present inside the 302. A short time later, the 5.0 developed a knock inside, and then the car was parked. The majority of the 7-Up Mustangs were automatics, but this one’s got three pedals, so once the motor repairs are completed, it’ll be nice to have a 5-speed manual transmission paired with it.
Inside, most of the components are in better condition than I would expect, considering many are white plus a lot of the miles were likely accumulated with the top down. This one seems like it would make a fun weekend cruiser once some engine work is performed, so if you’ve got the mechanical skills to make those repairs this 1990 Ford Mustang 7-Up Edition is located in Newburgh, Indiana, and can be seen here on eBay. So far, the no-reserve auction has only reached $1,136, but I’m guessing it will climb some more before the clock runs out here. All things considered, what’s a reasonable price to pay for this one?
These are the only Fox-body Mustangs to have a white lower dash and console. Other Mustangs with white upholstery had a lower dash and console that matched the carpet. The gray armrest on this car is incorrect. It should be white, as well.
Aren’t we almost up to a 12 pack of these by now?

Mike, you must have your head in the ’70s, calling a 5.0 Fox body a 302.
I kind of like that.
I also like these 7-Up specials. This one could be a relative bargain, or a dud.
Let’s see what happens at auction end.
At first glance I thought this car was an ASC McLaren Mustang. One of my favorite Mustangs. The 7UP Mustang is rare. Hadn’t seen one in a while. Might be a good investment.
SOLD for $5,225.
