This Verona Red 1975 BMW 2002 is said to be a survivor that runs and drives well and has been in a warehouse since 2003. The seller is a BMW 2002 specialist and went on a buying spree in the early 2000s of 2002s and parts, and grabbed this clean 2002 from a University of Florida professor who used the 2002 for commuting purposes. In that time, it acquired a few rust spots and a cheap respray, but overall, remained in sound condition. The seller reports that even after months of sitting, the 2002 fires right up and idles and runs well. Find it here on eBay with bids to $6,300 and no reserve.
These days, 2002s of both the round- and square-taillight sort are in demand, especially runners with minimal rust. This one hits the sweet spot for many enthusiasts, as its flaws are the sort you can live with, or potentially remedy and see a decent uptick in value on the other side. While it looks good from a few feet away, the seller notes the respray was a quick one, and that the trim wasn’t removed nor were any rust sports repaired prior to painting. The previous owner used it for commuting between Keystone Heights to Gainesville, FL, and decided to retire his trusty 2002 with 195,000 miles on the clock.
The interior remains in excellent condition, and the seller notes only some minor hairline cracks in the dash. The black seating surfaces and gray carpets remain in excellent condition, and this is the kind of interior that you love to see. It’s not perfect, but it’s clear that the previous owner maintained it even in all those years of seat-time. Despite the mileage, the steering wheel, gear shift, door panels, and other plastic surfaces remain lustrous and clean. The wood inlay around the gauge cluster also looks quite presentable, and overall, there’s a lot to like inside the car as well as outside.
The engine is said to be quite healthy with some blue smoke evident under hard acceleration. The 2002 benefits from some recent updates, including a Weber 32/36 carburetor and MSD electronic ignition. It rides on Bilstein sport shocks/struts and is equipped with aftermarket headers and turbine-style wheels from an E21 320i. The seller notes despite not doing much in the way of heavy maintenance – not even adjusting the valves – the 2002 fires right up and idles nicely. They have performed an oil change and coolant flush, replaced the spark plugs, installed new front calipers and pads, and added two new front tires. This 2002 looks like a winner all the way around, especially with no reserve.
What a gas! Electronic ignition? How sweet can it get? I wish I wouldn´t live 10000 miles away!
Checking out the prices that these are fetching currently on BAT then this price is a steal! Having owned a 1969 Roundie back in the day the next owner will be mighty pleased with what he gets out of owning and driving this one.
